Can anyone explain to me why VAG made some models of the mk5 golf 130 with 4motion, but didn't make the 170 with it? Logically more power and more torque would make 4motion more useful than in a 130 where it really isn't necessary? You could argue its not necessary in the 170 either but thats beyond the point.

dollar to a dime its more to do with marketing than engineering

I would imagine that they did their market research and decided that no-one would buy it.

I suppose it's possible that some element of the 4WD system wouldn't like the extra torque and/or power of the 170.

Interestingly they do the 170 A3 TDI with Quattro, but not the 130....

Well I woke up this morning and thought, I need a new car this petrol's costing me too much doing 15k a year with sub 30 mpg, so I started looking around whilst my mum cooks the christmas dinner :P.

Its a 140 not 130, 130 was in the mk4 golf tdi engine line up teacher
