Hi all. Just bought an E46 M3 and it only came with one key (according to salesman, previous owner lost it blah blah etc).

Short of going direct to BMW for it, whats the cheapest/best way to get a spare key for it? I don't necessarily need one as it's only me and SWMBO who use it and I am always in it with her for it's safety whenever she takes it out, but would like to get one so when we sell it, it's one less thing for a buyer to use against us!

Thanks in advance.

Worth getting one cut before losing the one you have.
Try local key cutters. I think the car is programed to accept keys rather than keys programmed to the car?

Think the car is programmed to only work with certain keys (i.e, the ones it came with). Something to do with the immobiliser according to a google search!

There's a couple on eBay at the moment which are about a fiver (30000% cheaper than BMW no doubt), but not sure if I'd be able to get the blade changed/recut to fit the ignition? Then not sure if I could get it re-coded to disarm the immobiliser?

Good shout on the local key cutter/locksmith though, didn't really think they would deal with car keys, but defo worth a go.
