I mean I'm only 17 so no car on the road yet, but my mum is putting a shocking amount of money into running her little Clio.

What are your views?

Who do you blame for it?

What's going to happen to all those lovely (very juicy) cars?!

On the downside, it costs more money to run my pretty mundane family hack (1.8 Primera Estate). On the upside, it means I cycle to work more often and am fitter and thinner by doing so.

Might get people to realise they don't need the use the car to nip to the shop at the end of the road or drop the kids off at school less than a mile away. It's quicker for me to cycle 4 miles to work at 9am than it is to drive and doesn't cost me a penny.

Not that that justifies the rises though.

In the not so distant future juicy cars will be nothing more than weekend toys. I have an STi and it depresses me when I fill it up knowing that I have just purchased 250 miles of driving frown oh well ...

If prices double from todays prices, I might raise an eyebrow, if they quadruple I may raise both eyebrows. I really won't start to get overly concerned until we are at about 10 quid a gallon.

If we get to £2 a litre or so I'll probably start cycling to work.

Most of my driving is for my business, so until the cost of fuel works out to more than 40ppm for the first 10,000 miles and 25ppm thereafter, I won't worry. . . . . wink

Sorry to disappoint but at £1.20 ltr its already well over £5 a gallon, so you might have to raise more than one eyebrow if it doubles hehe

As it stands, I'm not at all bothered by it, and it's likely it'll be a long time, if ever, until I am.

That's not just for fuel but for the wear & tear of your car... doubt it even covers the amount the high mileage looses on the resale value if you do that sort of mileage....

I took that 3 years ago when filling my Nissan 200sx and I remember thinking 'this is ridiculously expensive' lol.

V-power at that same petrol station is now over £1.30 a litres...

you've all got fair points I guess smile

I would rather have to drive to work than cycle to be honest

But I think just going to the shop a bit of exercise can't hurt wink

It's just when I'm a bit older I'd love to have a nice classic, but just having a weekly blast could end up costing fortunes if this carries on!

And insurance is rising too, don't even get me started on that! (17 year old male, need I say more?!)

It does not need to go up by very much to reach £10 a gallon!

I remember people saying this about £1 a litre.

The truth is, if you can afford to run a car at all it's not going to be prohibitive until you really have to think hard about car vs. other methods (eg train).

Since for me the train is getting more expensive faster than the cost of fuel is going up, the car is not only the cheaper option, it's actually getting even cheaper.

Odd, but there you have it.

The train btw is Southampton to London. It's about 80 miles on the track, and is £66 per return ticket. It's about £20 in fuel.

If it goes up much more I'm going to have to rethink my work. Currently doing 35k miles per year in a van. It's costing me over £10k per year to run, about £6k of which is fuel.

I'm going to have to start charging my customers more. The problem is my
suppliers are going to start charging me more. So I'm going to have to charge a lot more!

Higher fuel prices are soon going to start impacting on our standards of living and employment.
