Hi all,

On a rather snowy and slow commute to work this morning, I noticed sparks coming from the exhaust of my Volvo 2003 1.9d 115 which didn't appear to last long and were not present on the return journey. They were very noticeable at the time, however.

Quick google indicates that could just be soot build up being burned off, but the car gets a good run most days. Anything more serious I should be aware of?

Cheers for the help.

I had a Peugeot 205 1.9D, I used to do a 200 mile round trip commute once a week all on motorways, it being a slow car I'd put the foot to the floor and keep it there for most of the journey. One day I noticed sparks flying out the exhaust,.. carried on parked up at home. Car never started again, it was worth little more than scrap,.. so I scrapped it.

Has it been stood a while? It will be the soot burning off, its usually when your booting it though after its been ran at low revs for a while or stood.
I was on a diesel engined ship that was running hardly any load for days, when it come up in revs one night it was like a firework display!
