Four-Door Corvette Spotted

Porsche Panamera too boring for you? This might be just what you're looking for

If there's one thing we've always said was wrong with the Corvette, it's that it doesn't have enough seats. Or doors.

That was until we saw this, a four-door, four-seat 'Vette that was created by California Custom Coach in 1979.

Dubbed the Corvette America, this hymn to US excess pre-figures the current trend of four-door super-saloon-coupe thingummies (think Aston Rapide) by a solid three decades. We doubt it's all that quick, though. It is apparently powered by a 350 cubic-inch V8, which is chunky, but unlikely to produce enough poke to pull the Corvette America's undisclosed but no doubt rather hefty kerb weight along with any verve.

What we can't work out - as the folks over at US web-haven of automotive curiosities Jalopnik, where we spotted this, also point out - is what to do with the four (count 'em) T-top bits once they've been removed.

But even though it's a slow, long, heavy plastic sports car with nowhere to store the removable roof bits, there is something appealing about such a gloriously weird creation. And the best news? You can buy it if you want it. You'll need to find at least $300,000 (£194k), though...

So this creation is 31 years old, just like me.

Can't say that it appeals to me though.

Bloody expensive too
