I've had a bit of a rough few weeks recently, so was indulging in some 'drink think' the other day about things that cheer me up and one of them was PH (wierd, I know!). Thought it might be an interesting thing to find out why this has become such a popular website and what people love about it.

I'll start;

Recently bought a new car (E46 M3 convertible), was chuffed about it so posted on here and got loads of 'nice one's' and all sorts of hints and tips about it etc. On the other hand, I told a couple of mates at work about it and got all sorts of 'posh ' and 'its alright for some' sarky comments which annoyed me. Made me think about the community spirit that happens around these parts.

Don't know if this thread will get any decent feedback or just shot down in flames, either way, I'd be chuffed to hear some peoples individual experiences that they've had as part of PH that they wouldn't have had if they weren't on here!

I find it's the universal tolerance of others beliefs and opinions that brightens my day on PH.

I like the fact that I can talk to like-minded people who actually enjoy driving in all it's forms. Some forums are just full of car polishers and if you haven't got a Ferrari or a 911 you aren't anyone, and it gets so old so quickly.

Different types of people on PH, I've been on a few forums since I got online 4 years ago and nothing is as good as PH for all round balance.

PH was also the first forum I visited and joined after a mate recommended it.

This. It`s by far the best balanced forum. I sometimes go and visit one-make / model forums and the cobblers that you can read on (the majority of) those is incredible.

It`s also the diversity that helps. I asked a plumbing question on here a while ago and within half an hour I`d got the answer. Fantastic.

Mainly for the reason you posted about most people being sarky and just t**ts in person when you mention good cars.

When I got my Celica the first thing a "friend" of mine said was "oh! quite the penis extension". I just remember thinking first of all that I havn't heard that phrase in forever and also a Celica? really? it's not even a T-sport confused

So I like the site because of the people that know not everyone buys a car just because it's (even mildly) flash, but do so because they enjoy cars and driving.

Because I never cease to be amazed at how quickly I can get an answer to pretty much any motoring related question, at any time of day and night.

I find PH fascinating, much like a funny accident I walked past this morning where a cherry picker had caved its roof in on a nearby low bridge.

It actually bugs the hell out of me.

One day it's populated by bigots shouting the odds at everyone, and the next, I can't find anyone to shout at.

It's generally pretty amusing and sometimes hilarious. Plato thread the highpoint of 2010 for me. As said above, lots of people on here who drive more and polish less.

Very worrying increase diesel/MPG posts in 2010, though. Can we have a separate "Clatter matters" are for those posts please? I really DO NOT CARE how economical a wood burner is and never will.

Otherwise faultless.
