Which to use tomorrow 2WD or AWD
Discussion
Roads around here are largely untreated, 8 mile journey to make.
For work in the morning can either take my AWD audi tt with half worn all season tyres (225x40x18 front, 245x40x18 rears) or take the mrs primera dci (FWD) equipped with new snow tyres all round (205x50x17).
the reason for snow tyres are on the wife's car was last year it struggled to get off our flat drive onto the road, the tt had no problems with propulsion (traction control off) but the abs was shockingly bad and stopping was more of an issue (handbrake was more effective).
which would you use?

"snow" tyres or winter tyres on the primers?
Nankang Snow SV-2http://www.tyretest.com/wintercar_tyres/nankang/sn...
Winter shod Nissan.
We had the choice of a fwd Twingo or rwd MX5 to get to a hospital appointment 70 miles away, the MX5 is wearing winters so it was a no brainer. Getting some winters for her Twingo next year, the difference is so big.
I saw something on another forum that I thought was a good rule of thumb:
4x4 on winters > fwd on winters > rwd on winter > 4x4 on summers > fwd on summers > rwd on summers

2WD or AWD they all slide the same on ice.

but just in general driving on icy, snowy, salty roads i would much rather be using the less valuable car.
what he said - you can be the best driver in the world, in the most suitable vehicle, but that still won't stop 1 series BMW woman sliding into the back of your car at the lightsk-ink said:

Absolutely 100% the Primera, it will win hands down
Agree. Did Newcastle > Reading today in a Fiesta 1.25 (I avoided taking the BMW oop north) and it made the snow a complete doddle.Nothing could stop my old 1.25 last year. Compacted snow on a 10% hill, no trouble.
