I driving up to Nottingham from Basingstoke on Monday morning, plannning on leaving at 5:00am.

What's the snow and ice situation on the major roads at the moment? I've gone no further than 5 minutes down the road since Friday!

I heard the M25 was a bit of a disaster yesterday, cleared by now? No Idea about the M1...

Cheers in advance!

M1 was much worse than the part of the M25 I drove yesterday. This was probably a combination of heavier snow and the fact traffic wasn't moving on the M1. M25 had lots of slush but was perfectly passable in lanes 1 & 2 with caution by the time I got there. M1 actually had a covering of snow on all lanes few inches deep. Very dicey even at 30mph. May well have cleared now as thousands of cars and a gritter should have passed over it since I drove it yesterday afternoon. Worst bit was between London and Luton I believe.

In summary I'd stay in bed biggrin

The few miles I did around London yesterday, the roads were fine, if a bit slippery on hills where they'd been polished by BMWs. The big problem was traffic and ill-equipped cars/drivers.

I would say go for it but go equipped (lots of warm clothes/food) and be prepared for long delays on the M25/M1.

Thanks chaps, I'll keep checking online for news too.

It's a bit frustrating, if the road is impassable or lethally icey but doesnt have a queue of cars on it none of the traffic websites show there as being a problem.

Wish they did road reports like I've seen in the US and Canada, where they simply say wheter the roads are usable or not..
