was looking for 4x 225/45 r17 winter tyres. the only ones i can find are:

kleber "kaiser" (sp?) for £140 each. apparently a michelin trade name or something

pirelli W210's for £170 each, fitting etc. included.

anyone have any experience of either?

Kelebr's are OK & I'm fairly sure are a German make, ask if they have the snowflake symbol, if so they'll be fine. Michelin 210's are an old model tyre I think, but the ones I've had worked very well.

Both of those are excellent, check they've actually got some in stock though!

What about these? They sorted me out with a set a couple of weeks ago when nobody had stock.

I hope you arn't going to try and get them from mytyres?

The klebers are meant to be good, but have no personal experience with them.

Seeing as how you live in Essex which is hardly the coldest and most mountainous region of UK you might be better off to get out and buy one set of decent conventional tyres.

take a wheel off and find the actual size of the alloy stamped inside, from this you can see which other width tyres will fit, this may give you alternative cheaper options.

Well said , just remember having good tread depth and pattern makes all the difference

no, i don't expect many web places have them, or at least wouldn't be able to get them delivered before i need them, probably due to their couriers not using winter tyres tongue out i just rang around local garages to find one that had 4 in stock

i actually need 235/40 r17 but it seems a cheaper and more common size is 225/45 r17. the advantage of this, i guess is that i'll have 10mm less tread width, so good for snow + economy, plus a few mm more rolling radius

Kleber are a french company - have been owned by Michelin for donkeys years and make decent mid-range tyres. If you can find somewhere that have 4 tyres in stock, I would get them fitted asap.

just arranged to get the pirelli's fitted this friday. the guy didn't seem to know anything more than 'W210' but, i'm guessing they'll work, certainly anything will be an improvement over wide summers.

then it'll be a nice trip up to edinburgh on boxing day. hmm
