Cars that caught you out ?
Discussion
Ever been caught out by something you though was slower either blitzing you and dissapearing or given a much better account of itself than you thought possible, I happened upon a spiritedly drive Seat Leon Ecomotive the other day, good driver and the car seems really planted and not as pathetically slow as I assumed despite having half the power mines meant to have or less.
Corsa B C20LET - friends car, briefly, and was shocked at the pace when we were travelling down a motorway - it just upped and left.
Standing starts were always an issue though...
ETA: It could have passed as standard externally too, just lower, debadged, 2 inch exhaust and cav slabs.

My brothers mates mini, with no rear seats and a Porsche 944 lump where they used to be.
That sounds great fun, but perhaps a slightly strange choice of engine transplant? The 2.5 8v isn't the lightest engine around and it's pretty tall. Must have been exciting if nothing else!C63 AMG Estate
Was heading to glasgow in my (old) 400hp 200SX S14A and this guy seen me coming and put the foot down, i was a few car lengths behind and thats where i remained while flat out, slowly gained on him enough to spot the quad exhausts and C63 AMG badge, realised i wasn't just being shown up by any old estate and whacked the boost controlled up to full just to get past him, even at that i really wasn't making massive progress over him.
Never had to do that before or since in that car, it was a serious bit of kit that merc!
Found out a year later while working in the offices next to where he turned off that he works for mercedes and brings home a different toy every week.

Must have been exciting if nothing else!It was 15 years ago but I won't forget it. A 3-door Proton of that era (1.6 16v engined type, not the GTi) left me for dead from a standing start. I was in a 130BHP MkV Escort XR3i (ok, not the greatest car ever but not a slouch either at the time). Despite the crap badge the Proton was probably a better car as it was of course based on the Mitsubishi Lancer of the time....

I had an encounter with a saloon one the other year, I was travelling down an NSL single carriage way in the scooby, there was traffic in front of me so I was doing around 50-55 and there was this silver C-Class right up my boot (I could just about see the top of his lights). This carried on for a mile or so untill we went through an island and joined a motorway-reg DC and I thought "right I'll put my foot down clear this traffic and get this sodding Merc out of my boot" so I joined in the right-hand lane and duly booted it, check rearview mirror to find said Merc still glued to my bumper (if anything he was even closer) as I was clear of the slow traffic I moved left and the Merc effortlessly cruises past me, as it does so I see the badges and quad exhausts. Rather explained things!

Old shape Cavalier 4WD turbo a few years ago.. was out for a drive in my tuned Corrado G60 (207BHP) which was pretty brisk, saw this thing approaching me behind and changed down ready to nail it and as he came past, I floored it and so did he. He left me like I was stood still.
