Currently in the in the proccess of looking for a 106 gti as my current car is being sent to the scrapyard in the sky.
How do they fare as an owenership prospect? How are they on reliabilty/performance?
Any thoughts on the following examples?

No idea about their reliability, I would imagine most need some suspension bits refreshing now though. Surprisingly quick cars for something with 120ish bhp mainly due to their weight and very highly praised handling.
The tricky bit would be finding an unmodified one. The Saxo VTS is pretty much as good, and depending on who you listen to is much better and faster or much more chavvy.

The gold one has very low mileage for year but the diablo red is a great colour. They are great handling cars so I'd test drive them both and any others I can find, check for accident damage, rust, service history etc and make a decision. Good luck and don't pay full asking price : )
there was a 106 gti /savo VTS topic around here a couple of days ago. worth a little bit of a read (until that guy came along posting in all caps on page 2)
