RoadHawk Alternatives from Santa
Discussion
Ok, call me paranoid but I am beginning to think about asking Santa for a RoadHawk in car camera thingy. My parents are willing to put some cash towards it so I think it could be a sound investment.
A couple of questions from people who have one.
Is the rear view version worth the extra 100 notes?
Is there anything else out there similar that I should look at?
Does anyone have one, what are they like?
Cheers dudes..
Ps, yes I have seen the Monaro video

Sorry for the hijack but I'm in the same boat. Not fussed about GPS overlay etc. Would just like a rearview mirror mounted forward facing camera that comes on automatically when the car is started (and off when stopped) and automatically rerecords over itself.
It there anything around like that?

I have a Roadhawk, but not with the rear view bit. Easy to use, basically just forget about it. It comes with a fixed mount and a suck on mount as well, so it can be used in other vehicles but leaving the main mount. It does show speed and GPS location on Google maps once the card is activated in the Roadhawk file on a PC that's coupled to the internet.
Day-time pictures are good, but night-time are not so good as it relies on the light from your headlights, they would show anything hitting you at the front however.
The settings on it can be altered to suite yourself. Basically it will record constantly as long as it has power to it (via ignition)and will overwrite itself as it fills, but you can change the settings to record an "Impact event" when it goes out of the "G force" parameters that are set. This can be set for an amount of time before & after the event, and you can alter the amount of G force that is required to trigger an Impact event. I personally have mine set so that it would need a bloody good thump to trigger one, due to the fact that I also use it when green laning in the 4x4.
