Which would you have and why? Is the Mclaren SLR a better car than the SLS AMG or is it a mongrel that doesn't know what it wants to be?

Eh?

One won the Mille Miglia.
One never will.

Is there a contest?

I've never got on with the looks of the SLR, just looks awkward to me. The SLS is imo a stunning design, one of the best looking Mercs of recent years, so based on that alone its SLS for me.

Anyone else think this would look great with a fitted roof?

I think the SLR is a great car. But I love the SLS and its my favourite out of the two.

SLR cabrio, I think. It doesn't photograph well. They both sound sublime, go well, so its down to looks for me.

SLR if only for the active brake assist rear spoiler. Also, being a short arse, i have more chance of being able to reach the doors to close them

i think the sls has an air brake as well. The doors are equally hard to close on either if youre short tongue out

SLS is an immeasurably better looking car IMO.

It would have to be the SLR IMHO it sits in the Hypercar league rather than the supercar league and it was built by McLaren which makes it rather special.

Are we talking about the proper SLR

Or the modern ste?

If it must be a modern version, then for me its the SLS as IMHO the modern SLR looks to cartoonish

I'd absolutely love to have either (or even a good drive thereof) as I would like to think that most PHers would.

However, The SLS seems to me to be at the top of an admittedly very fine range of 'normal' cars made by Mercedes.

The SLR imo is a little more bespoke, special, call it what you will.

Nah. It was nearer 1500ish. Orders dropped off failry quickly after 2005/06ish. Hence all the limited edition versions to try and boost sales. The original contract with MB was for 3000.

I feel this needs illustrating:

Bearing in mind this comes from someone who's never driven or been in either (but seen a few of each), SLS every time. But I'm biased...the original 300SL gullwing is one of my favourite all time cars. In fact the only thing the SLS is missing is a pair of bonnet bulges...but I can see why they're not on there, it wouldn't look right.

Never mind the car, the transporter itself is a work of art.

I would go with the SLR.
The SLS is too ugly, and has ruined the original, from those poor attempts at Gullwing doors, to the gaping front

Styling-wise I prefer the SLR, but everything I've read says the SLS is a better drivers' car so I'd probably have that.
