I need help. Wrote my 3 month old Clio a couple of weeks back and I'm after a replacement.

I'm switching to diesel and my choices are a

'09 Peugeot 207 1.4HDI or a '09 Renault Clio Dynamique 1.5 diesel. After my slide with the clio I'm a bit apprehensive getting another one. However My old clio was excellent in the snow and tbh I don't think an other car would have done much better. At least I was unharmed.

I could push the boat out and get a golf 1.6 but as it's a second car for the winter. I'm not sure if this is a good idea,,

Thoughts?

Personally I'd go for the Clio, have a few friends with 207s and I just can't get to grips with the driving position, Clio's likely to be slightly better specced and is more powerful than the 207 too, 70bhp vs 105

Good shout. I took a rental Clio over to Wales and yes, it's distinctly uncomfortable for some reason, didn't particularly like the interior either, lots of silly useless "Warnings" and the like.

I wouldn't buy either. If you're doing the mileage to justify the expense of a derv I'd want something at least one size up.

I'm doing around 1500 miles a month. Thing is the Golf is around 4.5k more than the clio or 207. It's a car I'm likely to use more than my Z4M. I had thought about using the Z4M and fitting winter tyres..however I really cannot imagine it making much a difference with the handling, rear wheel drive and it being so low and I'd be spending a heck of a lot of money on fuel?

Driven both, and I would personally go for the Clio. Much nicer driving position, more comfortable and generally nicer to look at in my opinion. Really hated the 207 with a passion actually, horrid thing - couldn't wait to finish the test drive!

Pushed the boat out and bought a 10 plate Golf 1.6 diesel 105bhp. Will see how I get on with this one before I opt for the winter tyres as the cold snap returns latr this week.

Deciding factors :-
Road Tax 35 quid
Insurance group 4
Combined 62mpg smile
Future value
