Personalised Plate

i have been tasked with sorting out the problem with my brother's personalised plate, details below...

Last xmas my dad bought my brother a personalised number plate, the V750??? was then lost by my brother shortly afterwards. My dad has since had a letter from the DVLA asking him to either assign or re-new the registration, something we don't seem to be able to do without the lost document.

Ideally we would like to have the number plate transferred onto my brothers car, but again how do i go about doing this?

I have phoned the DVLA contact number on the letter numerous times but it just tells me to call back later as nobody is around.

does anybody have any advise to make sure the registration mark isn't lost and if possible get it transferred onto my brothers car

Simple thing to do is write to DVLA and explain the issue. Make sure you put the address to which the certificate would have been assigned to, along with the grantee name so that they have a trace. Include the £25 for the renewal and you should be ok.
If you put a telephone number down sometimes they will contact you to ascertain some other information too, just to be on the safe side.

Either keep trying on the phone with Swansea, or go to your local DVLA office and just tell them you've lost the retention cert . . . . . . when you get through to swansea, they'll send you a replacement cert and IIRC may allow you to pay for its renewal over the phone

Brilliant, thanks for the help. After the DVLA loosing so many of my letters in the past i am liking the idea of going down to the local centre and trying to iron everything out there, hopefully they will be able to put a delay on it (the VRM is due to expire in 7 days time according to the letter)
