Christ that's a good budget, you could get a citroen c2 vts or gt for that.

£3500 is an insurance budget? yikes

I know people will flame me for suggesting this but, of your £10k use £2-3k maximum and get yourself something like a 1.25 fiesta or a 1.1 C2. Get a couple of years no claims under your belt and use the money you didn't spend on the first car towards something better when you have a couple of years no claims.

New or nearly new
Suzuki Swift (always my first suggestion, sometimes regret selling mine)
Ford Fiesta
Citroen C2
Skoda Fabia

Older and slightly larger
Focus
Golf
Octavia

Or go for a classic. I had a 21yo Volvo 340 and there is something satisfying about an older vehicle (bangernomics) especially for a first car as it will inevitably get dinged (at 5 or 50 mph) and it's less gutting when its older.

Spending £3,500 on insurance doesn't seem right to me. Unless you're 17 then you've got no choice tbh.

The Suzuki Swift Sport is great if you can afford the insurance, the lower models are good too.

How much is the insurance on a Mini One?

You know insurance companies will go on more than the capacity right?

My sisters insurance is less than a grand I think for her mini one and she is learning to drive at 17, the C2 vts and gt are 1.6 engines but if you could afford a swift sport, 1.6 also, I've only heard good things about them.

insurance will bend you over and stuff an elephants nob up your arse with insurance. If i was you, I wouldn't buy one as a first car, people will say you'll crash it etc.. and they aren't 200hp stock. they're more around 130hp. you're looking at over £3000+ for something that is more then 10years old. for that price you could just buy a 5year old fiesta.

Get yourself a Porsche 924. Nowhere near the budget suggested and classic insurance would save you a bit too.

No other reason than to flash a Porsche key infront of ladies at a bar which as a young lad is what you're after in a car.
