My local Essex BP garage has recently gone from 62.9 to 73.9 over the past few weeks.

What's going on with LPG prices? Anyone in the East Essex area know of any better right now?

The Jeep may be mighty in the snow but it's still a thirsty beast!!

I started a topic on this a while back funnily enough.

I have had an LPG equipped car since 2005. When I had it converted (I was also living in Norfolk which was a bit cheaper than other parts of the country) LPG could be had for 28p a litre.

Most mainstream stations like BP and Shell have progressively ramped the price now as you say, and frankly 70 odd pence a litre is taking the mick. It used to be about half the price of Unleaded, and now it's getting on for two thirds the price.

I seem to remember there was a government scheme that pledged the price would stay consistantly lower in proportion, but I have a feeling that finished a year or two back.

Looks like it's a free for all now.

Anyway I don't have the 150 mile round trip commute anymore, so I've sold my LPG car and got a nice thirsty turbo petrol motor instead evil

Thanks for that,

I think the 'price pledge' is an EU directive and they have to give 2 or 3 years notice of its demise. (I don't think i'm making that up. smile )

It is boiling my wee wee as I can't afford to just ditch the LPG car and buy something else.

Will do. My local robbing bar-stewards BP want 72.9 for LPG. It's gone up 10p in about 6 weeks. I hope they're sued for 1p more than they own over that oil spill.

58p cash or 62p cards.

Pretty much doubled in price since my conversion in 2007.

Going up faster than petrol at the moment.

Dropped by 20p /l a couple of years ago.

Still half price of unleaded though.

Maybe where you are, but Unleaded isn't 1.44 a litre where I live!!

It's bad news. If you do a bit of research on the web, there are still one or two places where you can get it cheaper. Some Calor Gas depots, and one or two garages who do LPG conversions have LPG filling pumps too. Sadly my local Calor place disappeared, and there is only one Shell garage that does LPG round here now.

And I guess they know that too, due to their ridiculous price!

....what difference to MPG does running on LPG make?.....I have run a hired black cab on LPG and it was not very good....I reckon it was about a third down on a diesel version.

Well, I could be wrong but a few years ago when the Govt lied about AGW and not taxing LPG for the sake of the world, I said that won't last.. I wonder if they've now put tax on it!??

A few years ago I converted a Volvo 240 and ran on 26p ltr LPG. Saved me a fortune. Now we have a Skoda diesel that does 55mpg in traffic and 70mpg on run. As much as I like the idea of LPG the current trend for increasing prices (that will keep on going up) means it's diesel for me from now on.

Unfortunately, as dear as LPG is, it's not anywhere like cost effective to sell the Jeep and buy something as capable (and simple to maintain) but significantly more fuel efficient.

I may be wrong but I think fuel, or at least diesel, is going to be around the £1.40 mark by the end of next month.

Of course it would be illegal to install a large LPG tank for central heating and adapt it to fill your car

Others say you can have a tank and buy in bulk.

http://www.go-autogas.com/ for filling stations.
