Why do people buy convertibles ?
Discussion
Why, why, why do they? I was driving to work today and saw at least 15 convertibles (BMWs, MGFs, Audi TTs,Mazdas, Merc CLKs,Golfs, Astras, etc) all with the bl**dy roof up !
Whats up with them - it was dry and sunny, not that cold - so why?
Only saw 3 with the roof down - BMW 3 series, Jag XK8 and Saab 900.
Ahhh, feel better now, end of rant.

As someone has previously pointed out some of the time the roof stays on if you're nipping down to Sani-bury's or Wait-loads for the shopping i.e boot space. Sometimes you're just not in the mood when it's the trundle home from the orifice.
BUT TODAY......??? Yippee - no queues at the Petrol Station to worry about, if nothing else.
Truth is it's been sitting out there all day without the roof on - and I'm outta here soon!!
Whimps - all of them with the roof still on!!!

Obviously because we're not in summer yet, it only starts on June 21st
I must be totally daft (well it has been said a number of times !). My Chimaera goes into the garage with the roof off - saves time when I get it back out ! 7 months of ownership and the roof has been on 4 times whilst travelling - each time pi$$ing down on a long journey and two of those was only part way. If its drizzle the roof comes off and I need to travel .
I did a count whilst walking back from work (2 mls) on Monday, 2 porsches 1 roof on 1 off, 3 saab all on, 3 XR3/4 all on, 3 Chims - 1 on, 2 off, 1 Griff roof off, 1 tuscan roof off, 3 audi TT 2 on 1 off. Maybe most TVR/MG owners own a convertable for the open air the others just want one to pose in high summer.
To me there is no point waiting 10 years to get a convertable and then not using it - Ok if I know its going to rain I take the other car - but you don't get to enjoy the noise, smells, sunshine (well sometimes) unless you have the top down.
Just get out there and do it !!!!!!!!
Im not a great fan of convertables, saying that I ran an TVR S1 for three years as my only car go figure. If they had made an S with a hard top like the M3000 then I would have gone for that, probably why I like the Ginetta G4 so much.
Anyway when I used to pop down to sainsburys I used to put the back part of the roof wind the windows up and leave it like that.
TVR drivers are a little mad though, I know people that if its not raining the roof comes off even if its at night and freezing cold in the middle of winter. Big coats and hats but even bigger grins.

The Z3, MX5, MGF, MR2 and (IMO) Boxter brigade only buy these cars because those are the cars that are "fashionable" to be seen in.
These people are not interested in driving their cars properly, they wouldn't know the words apex or double clutch from their *rses and they are certainly not interested in getting under the bonnet and getting their (male and female) dainty little hands slightly oily.
And as for getting the roof down, well that might put a hair out of place in their Toni and Guy hairstyles.
They should only be allowed to drive these Salon-mobiles on the frigging catwalk.

If you are going to insult people it is important Driller that you get it right...DOUBLE DECLUTCH..is what I think you are talking about. If you are thinking about some of the new exotic twin clutch transmissions I apologise but you will need to explain their rationale to convince me.

It's Boxster actually. Although you managed the all letters or letters/numbers cars quite well.

How do you know that ? Mr Generalisation - hello ? I'd love to get my mitts on our Boxster's engine, only you can't get to it as it's mid engined. And it's "double de-clutch".

Toni and Guy ? Pseudo designer hairstylists for people who don't know any better.

Ohh really , what a stupid comment there is nothing wrong with these cars some are entry level convertibles , talk about bias just because its not a tvr do`s not make the owners Hairdressers , pratt
Oi, Driller, NO!
I bought a Boxster because:
1) Its mid-engined and therefore...
2) Has amazing grip and handling
3) Has 252 bhp (not TVR but still grunty)
4) Has a roof that's so easy to get off its off practically all Spring, Summer and Autumn.
5) Its a P O R S C H E - OK so its got a nice badge what's wrong with that?
6) I already had a TVR...
7) It does make it nice and quick to get to the Salon
