BUDGET - anyone listening ?

no change on fool duty...
but 1% on Employee and employer NICs, upper Employee NIC threshold raised with inflation and personal allowance frozen.
translation: defacto income tax increase (so they broke their manifesto promise - what a surprise), considerable NIC increase and double shafting for anyone caught by IR35.
All to pay for people who can't stop f***ing breeding, people who won't get off their arses and lots down the NHS toilet..
I hate this government...
Still, if you can avoid IR35 with your company, looks like you can actually save money..

Some useful tax breaks for small businesses.
Until you actually want to draw any of the money to live on. Then it'll cost an extra 2% on what it used to to pay yerself the cash.
And will I actually see any benefit? Not me. Dual income, no kids. I pay. I don't get a thing.
And, amongst the perfectly good stuff, they're doing a bunch of s**t I totally hate and want them to stop.
I can't speak for Don or Jon but I imagine they'll concur when I say that most small businesses don't actually show an operating profit on which to be taxed as it all goes on expenses such as salaries, marketing and re-investment etc etc..
Basingstoke Man has been fleeced...
If things are showing real improvement come the next election, I'll eat my words, but I'll still vote against them

quote:From what I can gather, its simplified in the sense of "give us a sodding great wodge that is more that you used to pay, or go through all the hassle and expense of convincing us via your accountant that you should pay the large (but lesser) sum you would otherwise pay".
What about the simplified VAT and lower corporation tax for (very) small businesses?
But I could be wrong and would be more than happy to be wrong and find myself paying less than before.
But i doubt it.
Oh, why don't you all stop bloody whining! Good God, are you ALL Daily Mail readers here?
Tax is the other 'sure thing'. If you want stuff like a decent health service, efficient non-privatised utilities, proper schools with teachers that have more than one CSE in woodwork, smooth roads, and all the other stuff that we all take for granted, someone has to pay for it. And guess what - there's only you and me here.
one percent is going to make bugger all difference to most people's lifestyles, and one percent to business is going to mean a little bit of inflation as prices rise to match it, but can you really not live with an extra 1 percent?
And, as one of a couple with no kids, finally, finally, someone is doing something about stopping that being a 'bad thing' taxwise.
Yes, I'm a socialist, and no, I didn't vote for this lot, and I certainly didn't vote for the last lot - remember them? Were you happier then? Don't be silly!
Just sit back or slide into your driving seat and enjoy one of the highest standards of living in the world. Yes, it costs money. Your money. My money. Everyone's money. Deal with it.

Actually Bruce, its 2% for the I.T. Contractors here - 1% on employees N.I. and 1% on employers N.I.
I'm all for fair taxation, but at an estimated 50% taxation level, I think I'm paying more than my fair share.
But I do take your point, if not your sentiment, as this is a car forum so I guess we shouldn't really air our personal grievances about the current tax regime here.
My apologies.

At least those with half-decent accountants don't show an operating profit!! Some of the small companies I know are capable of startling acts of altruism towards the end of the tax year...
JB (accountant - there, I've said it)

For the benefit of me (grin) could you explain that? I'm about to go to bed and will be in Cheltenham all day tomorrow with little by way of web access to go and pore through the small print.
I will, however, be reading Pistonheads at some point (of course)
And i've had to give up the Chim as a company car !!!!
12k off my tax allowance for what is now a 6year old car.... no thanx
oh yeah
will some one please explain why we have national insurance and income/corporation tax
and not simple corporation and income tax at a higher level to raise the same amount of cash...
oh i know that would save loads of money in (un)civil servant jobs and raise more money
Cheers
Graham ( someone who used to work in Government and now just pays of the useless tossers...)
im not a socialist or a fasist (or someone that can spell) just someone who can remember what a mixed economy is from school... and how good an idea it was...

Er, did I miss it then, Bruce ?
As a so called "DINKY", I'm utterly fed up of subsidising the working class who seem to think their only objective in life is to either sit on their fat asses and eat lard or breed and bring even more of them into existence. As well as that, I'm paying an extra 1% income tax. Quite why they don't just abolish NIC's and shove it on income tax is beyond me.
So why the hell not ? Probably because it sounds nicer, and that's all. What does it pay for ? Hospitals and Pensions. Well, seeing as we all know full well that the pension in about 30 years time will be worth 2/10's of f*** all, that's money well spent.
Not only do the Government see fit to fleece Middle England, they've also made an ememy of big Business as well by costing them a packet. Plus all the limited companies that have been shafted for 2%. They've made a huge gamble. Whether they will see the fruits of their labour before the next election is anyone's guess, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Yours, Significantly Worse Off, Northamptonshire.
