It took 20 minutes to get off the M25 onto the A30 this morning... why? Because there was one lane of the on-slip closed in both directions with a traffic census pulling people over to find out whatever they find out during these things..

The queue the other way from Staines to the M25 was a 30 minute wait..

Why must they do this to us??

So they know who travels on which bit of road - that way they can get the most revenue from speed cameras.

I think I've been reading these boards too much recently...

Its all part of a big conspiracy to drive us off the roads, make journey times longer and generally piss us off. Along with GATSOs, traffic lights that don't let anyone go, roadworks that last for months where no one does anywork, the M4 bus lane, congestion charging, numpties, Metros, numpties in Metros, the Guardian, feckin tree huggers and BLiar and his cronies

They did this last summer on the A14, bringing the whole area to a grinding halt. The chose to do one junction on a Friday afternoon too, which as anyone who used the stretch between Cambridge and Huntingdon knows, is a very very silly idea. fc*kers.

Can they do anything if they wave you in and you refuse to stop? I mean the sign says it's a traffic census, so it's not like they'll want to check your tax disc or anything...

I believe you have to stop, thats why there is usually
a mr plod there, but you dont have to be detained if you have a reason not to

Yes you do have to stop if flagged by plod if it's just the day glo jacket brigade you don't and you don't have to answer any questions.

I was stopped for Census three times in one day driving through Richmond Park. Interestingly it was a Met Police traffic officer doing the stopping. The Met Police traffic division at that time had no powers to stop in the Royal Parks other than as part of a 'hot pursuit' (and the Parks Police likewise outside the park). Still don't think it would have been a good idea to drive through though.
