What can be done to restore law and order in a Britain that is falling apart at the seams?

What should be done should indeed be done, but won't ever be done. Why? Because for some unfathomable reason our government listens to 'pressure groups' instead of the majority of the population.

One person in a thousand becomes an 'activist' and joins a like-minded group. Put all these groups together and count them. Let's say the total comes to between 100,000 and 200,000 extremists.

Blair & Co listen to them, and bow to their opinions time and time again.

That's called Democracy.

Yes, but just imagine. Imagine if the other 999 went out and voted. Imagine if listening to all of the special interest groups all came to naught. Imagine if the same 'majority of the population' actually was motivated to take the only action that modern political animals seems to understand, the vote...

...Imagine all of that. See it happening. Talk with others about it happening. Soon enough the great silent majority will find it's voice!

... alright, then, who's up for a chorus of 'Kum Baya'?...

(all IMHO)

Hear hear Ted.

Anyone who has ever been the victim of crime of any description will doubly agree with what you say, wether that's car crime, mugging, theft etc. Not only then do you see the affects of it first hand, but you feel like an assault on your own personal dignity has been made, this is sometimes harder to deal with than any financial loss.

This article was made especially worth while by your reality check that some people just can't help the situtation they are in and they do need our support.

I'd sign up for memebership of the "Ted Party" today.

Good one Ted ! I think perhaps the UK government have lost sight of the fact that bringing in legislation for every concievable thing is only going to create an Orwell-esque police state.
Back when caning was still legal in schools, the statute books were half the size and crime rates were negligable by modern standards. What ever happened to "Back to Basics"? or was that just another empty "Sound Bite" Give the little feckers a good thrashing every thime they put a foot wrong thats what I say !!!

I totally agree, esp. about the short Bobbies

But, have no fear. Because our government is so obsessed with statistics it has now decided to tie officers up with more paperwork, but its gonna backfire and panic the government into doing something serious about crime.

Its called the National Crime Recording Standard and went live nation-wide on 1st April. Its gonna have two effects. Less Police on the street cause the paperwork has yet again increased and 2, the crime figures will go through the roof.

Let me give you an example of how its works.

OLD SYSTEM: Passer by walks past a house and sees a window is broken. They call the Police who attend. Yep, broken window, entry has not been gained. There is nothing we can do until we see the owner who is not here. So, we'll call back later or wait for them to phone us. Two-minute job, then it’s off to the next one.

NEW SYSTEM: As above, yes it is broken. On the balance of probabilities its been broken by somebody, therefor a crime has been committed (government rules). Don't know who lives at the house, but anyway, return to station, fill out a crime report with NO complainant details (haven't got any yet) NO witness details, NO Suspect details. Fax it to relevant dept who enter it onto a computer and send back a crime number. Cross reference crime number with command and control number. Go back out on patrol.

Call back to house later that day to see owner. Yes, the window was broken, accidentally by the owner. Therefor, despite it looking like a crime its not, just an accident. Return to station. Update previous paperwork with owner details. Fax. Once updated begin paperwork to show that it is not a crime, and therefor the previous paperwork needs removing from the system. Result, complete waste of Police time, crime figures go up pointlessly......

The wheel is about to come off.....The Government will have to act..

I hope the government do act. However, (and I'm not an expert on these things!) the main deterrent to criminals committing a crime is not the potential punishment it's the fear of being caught. When you think about it it's obvious, nobody sets out to commit crime believing they are going to be caught, so the punishement is little deterrent. (see speeding!) Fear of being caught is what tends to make people think twice (see speed cameras!)...

I just hope the government doesn't do it's standard knee jerk thing and decide to reduce crime by covering the whole country in security camers as a 'deterrent'. And don't say they wouldn't do it, they're already half way there.

Wow, that sure made everyone feel better... The problem is, it's simplistic crap. Sorry, Ted - I usually love your rants - but the problem isn't going to be fixed by a few - or many - beatings. Instead, try forcing the big corporations to disgorge a reasonable standard of living for ordinary families, so that kids can have a parent at home, for a start! Expecting kids to believe in any sort of humane, responsible values, when their major influence is the Damned Television, is just so much desperate, self-serving drivel, on the part of struggling middle-class wage-slaves.
