Euro spec Jag XK8
Discussion
Not my usual choice of car but the story is that my brother has decided on one and has a few on a short list to choose from.
He's just about to take a diplomatic job in Germany and during his contract time will qualify for 2 new cars tax free (hence my interest in a Tamora as a replacement for me) However before he goes out he has decided to get am XK8 in the UK and is torn between two:
1. European Spec P reg dark green with hideous "mushroom" leather interior 2 owners 56000 miles last 2 services done by an independant (apparently private jobs by a mechanic from the local Jag dealer) No MOT but will have one done prior to sale reartyres nearly shot up for £17,500
2. UK spec R reg green again nicer interior more toys CD etc and full Jag service history 67K but £21,000
Now we all know the Euro spec is worth less and isn't as nice but is it a bargin ??? bearing in mind the intention is to PX it in 6-12 months for the new CLK when it comes out and that most of the mileage will be in Germany (so if the UK car was bought headlights would need changing etc) have any of the German readers a clue what the expected PX value on a car like this might be in Germany against the CLK. I really haven't a clue on the "old mans cars" so I wasn't much help to him but I know some of you might be.
Cheers

Mel,
firstly you'll never get rid of a RHD here in Germany so don't even think of it. secondly unless you're staying on GB plates, don't bother. re-registering a used car on the continent is a nightmare especially in germany as they do not accept anything thats not german specd. Had to change British Standard (higher than german specs) alloys on a Triumph 2500 to cheapo tin but german wheels! nuts!
I'd also advise looking at Jag-germany site (jaguar.de )as they have a lot of much cheaper 2nd hand cars than GB and with german specs/plates too... expect them to be 30% cheaper than GB. Just getting my S-type R and I'm well under the GB price (and thats a new 'un!) and getting a great trade-in price for my Audi too!
Just afew thoughts.....

No problem for registration here on the continent.
Only thing you need are some papers from the national Jaguar head office to confirm that car is built on EC standard. Most cars anyway are, but beware of some TVRs. Most countries will kind of Mot-Test it, even some doesn´t recognise wrongway headlights, which you should change if a righthooker.
A preowned car is usually VAT and Toll free (EC it is), but some countries have additional taxes like the petrol-consumption tax here in Austria. Highest rate (definitely for Jaguar) is 16% plus Vat to it just on its value while imported. But this part is handled different by any country.
Hope this helps.

Grifithy, you may be correct for Austria, but knowing austrian Beamten theres no way they'l conform to EU law unless forced by a court case. Austria is still a KuK monarchy according to their Beamten's mindset!
Mel, Certainly in Germany you'll have to get an individual car acceptance which entails costs (for the inspection only) of €350 and covery 276 different points of GERMAN law as those b*ggers don't accept EU law, everything down to having an EU or german stamp on your wheel rims. A GB (BS) one will be thrown out.
You may even have to get a german court approved vehicle engineer to look at it before it's even presented to the TüV! The TüV'll fail it in principle just because someone is cheeky enough not to support the german economy and buy it there! Don't even think of having anything not EU spec on the car........ Talking from experience here as have imported 3 cars in the last 25 years into germany and had the same (lately more than less) hassle.
The latest laugh was as I imported my Dodge Truck (for towing 5 tonne trailer) 4x4 10liter Diesel 650nM Torque and the idiots wanted to put it into the sports car tax bracket when it's a Truck! calling it an entertainment vehicle! Winkers!!!!! And don't mention the intelligence of german bureaucrats it doesn't exist!!!! Wanted to crash test it as there'd been no EU crash test of it on (their) records........

exactly my reaction to the stupidity of german bureaucrats, they actually put it on paper..... and only after facing up to them with the stupidity of what they'd written came the reaction duuuhhh....!!!! Bureaucrats.... waste of time and money..
So you're obviously not going to carry fare paying passengers in it.....???
Nice one no probs with people trying to cut you up with that!
No, its just for fun and pulicity.
Great thing for going on picnic with some
(the more the better) friends.
People along the road, waiting for a bus, usually forget to close their mouth and even don´t answer my wave.
Only one problem once; a very old Lady "jumped" into the bus and insisted for going to London.
She was very afraid of flying, thats why she wanted to take the bus. There was no way to move her out in spite of telling here several times that it is definitley not going to London.
Usually miss my Routy very much while waiting for a London one for ages.
