Why is there a fashion for having front foglights on? There are some who drive with just their sidelights and foglights on. Apart from being an offence it is dazeling and when some idiot is driving their max-powered Nova with blue ones incorrectly set it really gets up my wick.

Unfortunately more and more cars come with them now and it's an increasing problem. What's surprised me is that it's not the bolt-on-boys that are the main culprits. When I check out the drivers of the cars doing it is usually some anonymous looking bloke in a grey pullover.

I see it all the time as driving part of the job and see allsorts (not sweets) from just passed to old and grey. I think a lot of the time they don't know the lights are on.

I think you're right, I'm sure its that bl**dy advert that brought this on. Mind you one positive thing is that you can tell who the w@nkers are . I for one would like to see these people pulled over.

I have noticed that car mags (a certain weekly one)seems to enjoy taking photos in good daylight with the cars lit up like christmas trees, they must think it looks cool but all it does is cause people to drive round with them on even in daylight , i wonder if there is any way of making a black widow foglight remover to fit in to the front bumper

Regarding the front foglight thing, it seems to be mainly new Fiesta owners and BMW owners who are the main culprits IMO (Or maybe I pass the same ones each evening on the way home!) Shame really cos the poor old Beemer gets enough stick as it is!
I think the drivers of these cars are actually 'showing off' the fact that their car comes with fog lights and is therfore not the base model! It's a bit sad really because they don't realise that they look as stupid as the Max Power crowd who drive through town centres in a mobile juke box.
My response to the fog light brigade is to turn mine on and the full beam also.... If you can't show me some courtesy why should I care about you? (Irresponsible I know but it makes me feel better).

I thought it was just me that had noticed this annoying habit. I really think its just a case off "Look at me, I am mean (and good enough for my company to give me a car with foglights)"

Worse still is people that put the rear fog lights on when it rains, doh! FOG lights, not rain lights.

Why???

Cos' they don't know what the fuggin' buttons and switches are for!

On a slightly more serious note, there are plenty of cars where the warning lights for front, or rear, fogs either aren't intuitive or aren't very visible - haven't we all done it accidentally?

You just know that a few drivers out there know full well that they can blind drivers in sports cars though

There are even some cars (Vectra) that turn the front fogs off when the engine's turned off. So if you ever see a Vectra with front fogs on then it's no accident!
I've spoken to few people who refused to turn them off saying that it makes their car look better! Now that's definitely the manufacturers' adverts having an effect!
Cheers....... Andrew

Bring in instant roadside fines. It is illegal to drive with fog-lights on in normal weather conditions.
or:
Maybe a charge of driving without due care and attention would solve the problem (based on due care to other road users and attention to the fact that it is not foggy)?

Kevinday, wouldn't that involve the police actually having to do some traffic policing instead of letting a grey box do it for them?

Whilst driving on the motorway I overtook a BMW coupe, he had his fog lights on so I moved over in front of him and flashed my rear fogs a couple of times. He turned his fogs of and gave me a quick flash to say thanks. As someone said I dont think a lot of people know that they have them on.

A quick warning to nuppeties if you dont turn off your rear fogs when I am following then your going to get the full works headlights, main beam and fogs, With 6 lights I hope they then get the message.

Good point, I'd forgotten that, perhaps the grey boxes can be programmed to take pictures of that instead, much more dangerous than the occasional few mph over the limit on A roads/motorways?

eh, you can already be fined on the spot for having spotlights on. My mate drove over to a party I was at, and when he left his house, it was foggy (he lives near the coast), but when he got the the city, it was clear. He forgot about his, and he got pulled over and fined £30.

The biggest culprits are either flash Bummer drivers or your grey old 'sitting on the moral high ground' sunday driver grandad types who no doubt drive around thinking how wonderful, safe and helpful they are by giving you advance notice of their presence.

I followed a car up the M6 with sidelights and REAR FOGS on! It wasn't even bloody foggy!! It was daylight, Sunday Evening Past Birmingham, FFS WHY?!?!?!

Being Daylight it wasn't too bad but at night they just hurt your eyes!! I don't understand the attraction personally!! I used my Rear Fogs early Monday Morning in Dense Fog, (Seriously dense fog, I had Main Beam on and still only just able to see, couldn't see the cars on the other carridgeway until they were next to me) but turned them off when the visibility got a bit better going past Hamilton!!

IMO it is not acceptable to just forget they are on! It's like forgetting the lights are on when you get out of the car, or the handbrake is on when you move off! Most of the people I see with the rears left on are women! (no offence to women) It just makes me angry!!!

Off Topic!
On Sunday a woman in a Merc ML sat in the Outside lane of the M6 (right on my arse I might add) checking and touching up her makeup! My GF Sat and watched her for 6 miles. She was doing this at about 85mph! Thats just dangerous! She looked in her Rear View Constatnly for 4.5miles! Which means for 4.5 miles she wasn't watching me, the car ahead of me, or the queue we were in! I could have shot her!! (Thats a bit off topic but it pissed me right off)
