TVR v Lotus, to help a confused friend...
Discussion
This isn't one of theose "a friend of mine...2 in the doctor's. Don't worry.
He is looking at either a Chimaera or an S4 Lotus Esprit.
We get loads of banter (Flasher, Benno et al) between the Porsche and TVR guys. What's the deal with TVR vs Lotus?
He would be doing up to 18k miles a year and has already worked out that he can afford the TVR.

that was the dilema i had 3 years ago...
in the end i went for the chim as
a) anyone above 4ft high can get in it
b) it has a rover engine that i can get fixed cheaply anywhere
c) the noise it makes
d) the roof comes off..
The esprit will handle better and stop better. it was the bespoke engine that really put me off.

Oh, you've heard it before... and not just about Lotus...
Compare one company with financial problems and an uncertain future with one which...
Oh, hang on...
I'd go with the height thing, though. I don't know who designed the Lotus, but they weren't human!
Frankly, if your 'friend' is going to be impractical then don't worry what anyone else thinks. On both cars, the resale will be dreadful, servicing will always be a horrid surprise, and you'll worry about every little rattle - until you're DRIVING and then who gives a tinkers about any of it! They're both totally addictive.
