Hi. Im looking for an insurance policy that allows me to drive other vehicles with the owners permission and still be covered 3rd party.

Im 23 at the moment. Im unable to find a policy which allows me to drive other cars and it seems to be a trend with all insurance companys. Why is this the case? Can anyone recommend a company that is likely to insure me in this way.

Thanks.

Tom

I think you are going to struggle.

IIRC, it is normally 25 on most policies.

Its really frustrating. Im trying to start my own business and this is really throwing a spanner in the works. Ive got a clean licence of 6 years and 6 years NCB and i still cant find anyone who will cover me 3rd party.

What kind of business? Even if you were over 25, a normal insurance policy may not give you the coverage needed if there's a business element.

What sort of business?

Is a Trade policy not an option?

I'm making some assumptions here but I see 2 problems:

1) Most insurance only covers you for commuting not driving for business,

2) where are you going to find clients that are happy to let you drive their cars with only third party cover? I wouldn't be very happy knowing that I wouldn't get anything back if you crashed the car!

They don't, stopped it not long ago sadly.

I think it was only a few days ago that the word got out that they stopped it. They were one of the major companies for that.

You won't be able to use it for business use.

I had it with Bell since I was 19 but they said this year its 25 and over now. A bit annoying, otherwise I would have driven a GTR by now LOL.

And that is why most companies have put the age up to 25!

+1 that was one of the exact reasons it was changed, simply being abused to much wasn't worth the additional premium in the end (it was optional extra on flexi bell policies) I'm wondering who in their right mind would lend you a GTR to drive on TPO!.

how about Adrian Flux? I'm insured with them at 24 and they just gave me any car 3rd party insurance as part of the cover without me asking so it might be worth checking into that.

The company I work fro does it, but I would offer you cover based on what you want to use it for though.

Is it normally stated that your covered for use in an emergency to avoid people buying a 1.1 fiesta to insure and using £50k skyline which is insured and registered in a parents name?

I expect the insurance company would look on the scenario above about as favourably as fronting.

I used Bell insurance from the ages of 19 to 22 (I'm 23 now) for various cars and each policy I had gave me an optional extra of use of other cars on a third party basis only. The price of it depends on what car you are currently driving and the mileage etc. I think but it cost me between £25-£40 extra a year. I added it in case of emergencies and proved very useful as I had to use several cars throughout the year for different things. Let me know if they still do it.
