Has anyone driven a HSV GTS R, or have any comments on them?

Thx

Lee.

EVO magazine said "For those who have sacrificed a TVR for a growing family the pumped-up HSV could be the perfect tonic. If you're after big fun with four doors, the supercharged GTS has got everything else licked.".

So, basically a 4-seat, 4-door TVR-substitute then.

(Or better still, an addition to your TVR)

Saw one last year spinning the wheels in a traffic jam on the M5 (not AN M5, THE M5, you understand). This was before it'd been in all the mags first time round, I thought it was a heavily modified Omega with a twat at the wheel...

Not too far from the truth as I understand it, Jon. The Holden saloon that the HSV GTR is based on is the Australian version of the Omega. They're both owned by GM.

LEE77, I've got a GTS-R bought new from the importer HSVUK in october last year. It was the last new one available of the 12 R's imported to the U.K. I had 4 TVR's before that and the GTS and GTS-R were the only(4 seat) cars that were anywhere near as involving.Had no problems and done about 4000 miles now.....and no I've never been on the M5!

JONRB although Holden is owned by GM, HSV is a seperate company owned by TWR. The supercharged car is a 10K conversion based on the 340 bhp GTS, the GTS-R that LEE77 was asking about was a very limited run made for Europe.....Bloody hot in this anorak!

Hi SJC, lots of questions.

Can you tell me anymore about your car, performance, handling what do they sound like etc, etc... Also where did you purchase it from and is it true that it only needs a major service every 50k miles with oil changes at 6k as much info as you can provide.

I assume that it is black?

Many thanks

Lee.

LEE77....Yes it's black with Ann Summers red/black leather, as you're probably aware there is no choice and it has grown on me a lot! Performance is about as good as its likely to get for a 4 door saloon, supposedly 100 in about 11 secs. As for the noise at cruising speeds it's whisper quiet but a nice note when gunning it. However I've booked it in for a custom made stainless exhaust in a couple of weeks to beef it up a bit. The handling is superb and I trust it much much more than any of the Tivs I had (probably a reflection on my abilities than TVR's!) I bought the car from HSVUK in Milton Keynes and the only prob so far has been the CD player. I'm very very impressed with it. Have you seen one for sale, if so where and have you driven one yet?

LEE77, just had a look at your profile. Build quality won't be up to Porsche/Merc standards but certainly on par with most other manufacturers. Say "hello" to Rod Clausen for me (Andy Martin) and please don't post back that you've bought one and are getting it supercharged to over 600BHP!!

Hi SJC,

I drove the new shape VX GTS R of which only 2 were made for a TWR show , 410BHP which can go to 450 BHP for an extra £2K , cars had only done a few hundred miles so no real fast stuff but felt like a very quick and capable car, no red and black interior though just dark grey but still nice inside.
Not sure if I will change the 996 for it at the moment though.

Thx

Lee.
