ESCORT GTi???
No? I didn't think so. let me explain!!!!
I was driving to Halfords this afternoon, and while sitting in a cue of traffic 'admiring' a smart looking all white Escort, my attention was drawn to an unevenly spaced aftermarket badge which said G T i!
I then had a closer look at this car, dodgy rear spolier, cossie side skirts (the guy didn't even bother getting the cossie bumpers!) and a standard exhaust! I noticed that is was about the size of 1.3! Oh my how I laughed! The driver had obviously clocked me looking and laughing and decided to give me a run for my money!! On to the bypass he booted it, I waited 20 minutes for him to open a gap and booted it also! The grin I had when he maxed out at 95!!! Some people just don't use there brains!
Must say though! If it wasn't for the G T i badge, it would have looked really smart!!!

It makes me laugh when they buy a "D" for an oil burner Escort then jumble the letters around (adding the D) to spell "SORTED"
Numpies
they dont bother buying a "D" they just turn the "C" round so its a "D" without the vertical line!
i cant think of anything amusing to make from FIESTA!
I worked for Ford at the time the Escort GTi came out. If I remember correctly it was introduced by the Thames Ford Dealers rather than the Ford marketing department. The Dealers had a pretty ropey looking GTi badge made up and stuck it on the back along with some tack on bits out of the options list......understandably Ford were somewhat pissed off at this bucking of "Brand Values".
I was working at Ford when the GTi came out. The marketing team were quite put out as it was a Dealer special edition (Thames area dealers I think) based on an Si, the Ford marketing boys would not have agreed to calling it a GTi - this was just about the time that insurance companys were spitting feathers about anything more sporty than a Micra.
Incidentally the site that Ted references incorrectly says that it had an MTX75 gearbox. It wasn't it was an iB5 built at Hailwood (as many of the cars were)
I'll go and take my anorak off now.
