Just looking at a 2004 '04' Mazda Tribute 3.0 V6 4WD 5dr Auto with a view to buying. I wondered if anyone from the PH massive have owned one and if so, what are your thoughts and comments as to the Tribute? Would you recommend it? Positives and negatives. Points to look out for etc?

Useful comments appreciated please.

Thanks
Teresa

Somebody here will have had one so you should get some feedback. If it's an uncommon model be aware that parts might be expensive should it develop faults specific to that vehicle.

My Dad bought an 03 plate 2.0 GSi Petrol in February when they moved up to near Oban (West coast of Scotland), he's really happy with it. He gave his company car back so was without a car, and wanted something with 4WD as they were living in the sticks. I tried to talk him into an Impreza Wagon but he was having none of it frown

He's had it off road a few times when he's been out to the islands etc and it more than holds it's own. The high ground clearance is especially good for the track up to their house, the same track that destroyed the undertray on my A3 hehe

Nice comfortable car, leather, CD changer etc, and pretty decent on-road as well

Only thing he's had done on it was a track-rod end - the lead time was 6 weeks from Mazda but managed to get a Ford part instead

For the money they're a lot of car, and you don't see too many of them on the road. For that price he was looking at first generation freelanders, RAV4's (yuck) etc - without going for a full on huge off roader/double cab pickup

Thanks for that. Our main concern is fuel consumption and reliability I suppose. We have an old Mazda diesel estate at the moment which is very reliable. However parts are obviously expensive when they do go wrong. It seems that they don't make Mazda Tributes now for the British market so I wonder how attainable parts would be.. The one for sale has done 42,000 miles with 4 owners. They're asking £5k for it..
