Driving back from Manchester (to Reading) late yesterday evening I was amused at what appears to be the latest must have accessory for the would be 'car enthusiast' - Blue Lights. Now I'm not talking about Xenon headlights or even a blue tinting film over the headlight but two small individual blue lights fitted either on the bonnet or on the dashboard facing the bonnet.

I counted at least 5 cars with these fitted yesterday - mainly the usual Nova's/Cavaliers but there was also one 4x4 Toyota SUV type thing

Has anyone else seen these? They bloody work, each one that appeared in my mirror I slowed right down (not that I was exceeding the speed limit) only to be passed by a s&%^ty Nova!!!

Surely the police would frown upon these lights? Perhaps I should buy some, my everyday car is an Omega, I'm sure they'd look good mounted in the front grill.

Nope not talking about the Xenon headlights.

The ones they seem to be fitting are cheapo (I presume) bolt on jobs you could probably get in Halfords or somewhere.

I've considered purchasing a white Vectra/Omega/Mondeo. Doing it out with some rather attractive chequerboard blue "go faster" stripes and painting "POLITE" in large red letters on the back, sides and roof.

These new blue thingies would fit in nicely...

Aaaaargh! NO!

Its the latest BoltOnBoys' Toy. Two blue LEDs that go in the windscreen washer jet holes.

You can get those blue flashing beakons unmarked coppers have for about £30. Might be an amusing purchase.

I've seen loads of those around too. I don't suppose they do anything useful like de-ice the washer jets or anything. Just look bloody stupid.

I was in Halfords the other day getting some allen keys and I got to the bottom of this little mystery.

They are, and this is not a wind up, 'Max Power LED Washer Jet Covers'. Apparently it is the mass produced hatchback equivalent of the 'Dub Wave' for Beetle owners, but nowhere near as cool!

Ridiculous, ridiculous, ridiculous!

The hand signal that a lot of modified beetle owners wave to each other using. Its sort of like a closed hand but with the thumb and little finger extended to make a sort of VW sign with ones hand.

Oh right. I guess the blue lights are safer for the max saddo's than sticking their arses out of the window as a greeting.

As opposed to the Gareth Hunt semi-closed fist 'coffee time' wave I reserve for the drivers of Novas etc. with washer cover LEDs.

They are not blue. If you want more information I will send you a PDF file about Xenon lights.

Yeah, I was just discussing this stupid craze with my brother last night. I think they look bloody stupid - words can't express how annoyed I get when I see them, I don't understand why people think they look any good. Maybe they like the novelty value of blue LEDs - which have been available for years but have become more efficient recently. What most of these boys forget is the phrase 'impersonating a police officer' which also extends to police cars. As far as I'm aware it is illegal to have an external blue or green light on a car which is not used by or authorised by the emergency services. I know in the USA the police have been charging people for having these blue lights on their cars.

It's funny the things that catch on. Must be something to do with modifications that only cost pocket money.

I've seen hundreds of cars with these fing things on! They just look stupid! A mate tried to talk me into getting them on my Orion,
I don't understand the attraction! Same with these 'big bore' exhausts on 1.2 nova's! they don't even sound good! I can put up with sports exhausts as long as they use the complete back box and not just the little pipe on the end!

I once saw a rusty old nissan bluebird in sky blue (arn't they always?) with a standard downwardly curved rusty exhaust end, but with a big shiny bolt-on tip. Thing is, because of the downward curve of the old exhaust this thing pointed downward at 45 degrees, almost dragging on the road! Bell end.

Yep, there is a lot of cars with those crappy windscreen washer lights. They look terrible and cannot believe some people are retarded enough to pay money for them!!

Can you imagine parting with your cash for those? If I was into vandalism cars with those fitted would be first on the hit list.

And the idiots think they look good.

Ahhhh, but what about some special colour co-ordinated yellow Piston Head lights. Now that would be a different matter, obviously.
