"Mercedes says that although the car has long been out of warranty, the company is willing to foot half the costs of repairs.
The Dartford retailer was originally prepared to pay the other half, but withdrew its offer since the protest began.
However Mercedes says Mr Pavey also wanted repair of stone chips and bird lime damage that came through the car’s use over its life.
A spokeswoman said: “We feel offering to pay 100 per cent of the cost of repair for an privately-bought unknown car that’s not had a service history with us for six years was reasonable.”

The 51-year-old says his Mercedes E55 AMG is rusting from the inside outwards, and his one-man demonstration will continue until Mercedes agrees to strip, and respray his car free-of-charge, or provide a replacement.

Surely standing there for five weeks or more is costing him a hell of a lot more than just either getting it fixed himself or selling and buying something else! It won't get him anywhere (cutting off his nose to spite his face or whatever the phrase is!)

k they are.I think they've offered to pay for the repair of the vehicle, but he wants it to be totally stripped and re-sprayed. I think he's an idiot who's going to be standing there a very long time and should have taken the offer at the time.

If I judge this right (and I am wrong, occasionally) this isn't a dispute, it's pointless self promotion - the dealer / mercedes response is irrelevant. This would certainly explain the fact that he is behaving completely irrationally froma customer perspective.
Having known other 'marketing' professionals who have done similar stunts in the past - I would also hazard that he is deeply annoying to work with and it's no wonder that he is currently "freelance"...
