Lizards
Blood-drinking lizards secretly rule the world and they drive Toyota Previas..?

Good article. I too cannot believe what some manufacturers think is a good idea sometimes. Making change for the sake of it, just because it's a new year it seems. Why did the scooby lights change for example? Jap cars change apperarance with the wind, just like new shape kettles and toasters coming out - no significant reason for it, just to catch the eye again, like rows of crap lined up at Comet. No one will look back in years to come and wonder at these lame (fashion led?) designs.
The example of the 911 and Modena is wide of the mark in my opinion. Don't think too many people would confuse the two, not even my mother. The 911 has subtly changed shape over 40 odd years and improved technically along the way. I think they have struck a perfect balance between maintaining the vital elements of classic design and keeping the car at the forefront dynamically. A case of changing and evolving for tecnical reasons, not for fashion sake.
What happened with the lotus elise too? I remember a press release from them about maintaining the classic shape over many years so that we in Britain would have a long term classic, in the same way Germany has the 911. Only a year after that statement they ruin the classic 'face' by slapping on some cheap looking tacky jap headlights!

I agree - cars are getting very boring. Ok, I'm buying a new, fairly boring 2 box hatchback, but it's to do a job. And that's about where it ends.
Wish I had the dosh for something a bit more individual, but the latest trends are just about sticking bean cans on the zorst, tinting the windows, and wearing a baseball cap. The cars are all the bloody same.
And you knew I'd have to bring bikes into it somewhere, but bikes are getting a bit too close as well. Ok, *I* can tell the difference, but I bet a lot of you couldn't at first glance. Hence the other reason for getting an unfaired bike - you can see the bits that make it work, engine. Suspension. Errr, and more engine.
The pursuit of efficiency is making the world a duller place.
