Fantastic. 76% now. I love it when the tree huggers' smug self congratulatory PR backfires right into their lentil soup.

Brilliant.

Love the pun, Carl - know your enemy, visit www.foe....

If they were to follow their own doctrine, then fuel tax cuts would help the lower paid to buy better, less polluting cars, inducing fewer accidents and thereby helping the poor, socially excluded transportationally challenged of Bradford - and no doubt other areas - to overcome their problems. (see www.foe.co.uk/resource/reports/env_justice_bradford.pdf )

Actually I think it's a slur on Bradford's good name....

Also, check the size of the downloadable .pdf file entitled "Who runs our Railways"....

Apart from voting several times if you follow the link to "urge the chancellor not to cut fuel tax" you can alter their letter to say whatever you want. It didn't go through my outlook so I guess there is a fair chance they might just vet them but you never know the numpties probably can't believe anyone would be so irresponsible. Here is what I sent

I am writing to ask to you to make cuts in the fuel tax.

I believe there are strong environmental reasons for reducing the fuel tax.

Climate change is the biggest load of nonsense that we face today and to tackle the problem we need to reduce the ammount of attention paid to stupid green activists. The fuel tax helps to wreck our economy because it discourages necessary car journeys and encourages the use cheap foreign imports. Cutting fuel tax encourages people to drive more, which is very productive in economic terms.

For these reasons I urge you to cut the fuel tax.

That's 77.12% now for fuel tax cuts
Do you think they'll now campaign for the tax cuts? given that their own survey points to it? Or will it go the same way as the other 98% of statistics that doesn't fall into line with their agenda and be ignored

My contribution to this arguement :-

'I am writing to ask to you to make cuts in the fuel tax.

I believe there are strong environmental reasons for reducing the fuel tax.

Climate change is not an environmental threat as the CO2 levels have been much greater in the past and CO2 helps plant growth - A positive feedback system therfore the more CO2 the more plants grow. A lower fuel tax helps to achieve this aim because it encourages the use of public tranport and the use of larger engined cars. These are more efficient as they do not operate at the limit of power and thus throw out more NOX ( A real poison to all living things). Cutting fuel tax encourages people to drive more, which helps vegatative growth.

For these reasons I urge you to cut the fuel tax.

Support our farmers grow more food and drive more.

Question is: How do we start to get our point across?

Here goes...

quote:
I am writing to ask to you to make cuts in the fuel tax.

I believe there are sound environmental, social and economic reasons for ignoring demands to maintain and increase fuel tax.

Climate change is fundamental to the nature of the planet - has been since long before we arrived, will be long after we perish.

It is said that motoring contributes to 25% of all man-made carbon dioxide emissions. However, it is also said that man-made emissions contribute in the region of 2.5% to the amount of greenhouse gases in our environment.

One volcanic eruption is capable of emitting more greenhouse gases than all of the cars on the planet in a year.

So, motoring accounts for 0.625% of the overall makeup of gases contributing to the 'greenhouse effect' without which the planet would be largely uninhabitable, being considerably colder.

Of couse, carbon-dioxide is not the only greenhouse gas, in fact it's not even the most abundant. Methane takes that honour - a gas produced by living matter in great quantities.

The biggest threat that we face today is the throttling of the economy by a faction determined to regulate, restrict and prohibit at every turn, enforcing restricion of free movement on the basis of a highly speculative if not entirely specious environmental argument.

The high fuel tax restricts the ability of British businesses to respond to the competition from other EU countries with whom we have free trade. Further, high fuel tax contributes to the significant financial burden on every car owning member of the public at a time when vast tracts of the country are practically inaccessible by public transport.

For these reasons I urge you to cut the fuel tax.

Finally, I'd like to thank the Friends of the Earth website for providing a platform for me to air my views.
