Heard from a friend yesterday that he was stuck behind some moron, who was doing 40 mph on a perfectly straight, safe, 60 mph limit road.
We've all been there - many postings on similar incidents here on PH - and, when there's no safe opportunity to overtake, it's a wonder your brain doesn't haemorrhage with the stress.
Anyway, fortunately in this instance, as said numpty rolled on (probably at the limit of his hand-eye coordination) he entered a 30 mph limit and was promptly flashed by a speed camera. Let's just hope there was some film in the thing!
Anyone else have any encouraging tales of numpty misfortune?

Hurrah - at last they have been caught for breaking the speed limit in a town / village / hamlet.... I am constantly blocked by this type of driver - for some reason there is a greater number of numpties on the Suffolk / Cambs border...
Still, fingers crossed that it had film and that the police take it further.... could there be justice after all?
Cheers,
Paul

A middle aged housewfie type neighbour drives a 106 wiesel. She thrashes it everywhere, but only does around town stuff. Told me she's paranoid at the moment as she's got 9 points from 3 separate SP30s. I told her it served her right and she agreed (makes a change). Once they've cleared she'll be off again paying little or no attention to the surroundings (this is around Slough and eveyone local knows where the flippin' cameras are).

I heard this story a while back and have no reason to disbelieve it.
A campaign was setup in certain Suffolk village to have 30mph introduced, not such a bad idea as I myself in my youth had attained frighting speeds through said village and around a particularly entertaining 45 degree bend without losing it and ending up in the old fogey homes garden, anyway after much campagining a 30mph was introduced and the police duly enforced the limit with a radar trap and guess who was first to be caught....
the head campaginer...
A good wheeze!

great ! there is some justice in the world!
Bet they don't get the ticket though.
I had almost the same expereince the other day. Volvo doing 40, I went past on the last mile of NSL at about 70.
Got to village, dropped to 30mph. By the time I had left the village, Volvo was right behind me, obviously gloating at how clever they were to have caught up with this "foolish" biker. Didn't stay there for long though.

had a similar thing coming thro Barton, car was so close to my tail that I couldn,t see the headlights, this carried on through the 30 zone till I hit the open road between Barton and Haslingfield whereupon I floored it (black Saab turbo) he shrank satisfyingly to a dot. At Haslingfield the same thing happened so I promptly pulled over, let him by and followed him at a discrete distance for some time till it was obvious I had put the willies up him (he kept doubling back on himself)....i hope he got the point
Funniest was a numpty mate of mine. He drives a 106 one point sod all, and doesn't drive it very quickly.
Poor bastard got flashed twice, same camera (6 points and 120 quid in fines) within about 4 days of each other.
His crime? Doing 38 in a 30, and 42 in a 30.
Makes me laugh (clean licence, touch wood) every time I take the Lotus Carlton up to 150.

Beware the Volvo driving too close behind. A long long time ago, I was driving spiritedly through the bends and over the bridges around Little Venice in London (if you know, you know what fun it can be) and this Volvo started driving right up my chuff. So close, in fact, that as I approached traffic signals at amber, there was hardly a hair's breadth between us. The lights turned red, and I thought, 'If I stop, there's a Volvo making unwanted advances through my behind', so went through the red. The bloody Volvo followed me through.
'What the...' I thought. 'Why is that white Volvo following me through the lights and why... is ... he ... turning... on... those... flashing... blue ... ...oh bugger.'
Couldn't see the jam on the sides as he was too close! Got off with a warning, though, as I protested that it was his bad driving that forced me into my behaviour!

Numpty Blonde to the power of 3!!
Yesterday in Bavaria on way to Münich 4 laner (A8)coated with snow, all signs lit up for 100kph due to bad visibility etc. Met a gap in traffic about 2km long with no-one except a 3 BMW in the 3rd lane. Blondie driving.... as I pulled alongside she flipped her sunvisor mirror down and started applying lipstick! Now the great news...... she lost it, kissed the Armco on the left, spun out right and overended and wrote off her juppie shite. Called police who arrived with alacrity. By the time I'd got to the car and hauled her (undamaged) out, the police were there and put her in their salad-sarny (barvarian fuzz cars are green sarnies). Her lipstick was up to her right eye and she couldn't deny it, as well as there being an open lipstick in the car..... She'll probably get a 3-year ban and also has to fight a criminal charge of endangering other road users. Hopefully a prison sentence..... Rant mode now off.....

Numpty times 2! On the A5 Frankfurt-Darmstadt toddling along doing 280kph when a w*nker in a merc pulls out in front doing less than 150. I have to slam on, he gets the lights treatment and thinks he can accelerate away. Well as everyone knows, the most famous german Gatsos are always at the Darmstadt interchange. So pushed this numpty hard and when we crossed the 120 limit I stamped on everything. Numpty berk in the swabian muckcart goes through the Gatso doing at least 220kph. License gone! one down 3.5 million to go!
Had one yesterday where I followed yes a bloody metro being driven spot on the speed limit, exactly 30 in a 30 then upto 40 etc etc. Now this was winding me up anyway because I'm sure the nugget would have done 30 with 2 lines of parked cars outside a school at 3.30 but then justice was reaped, onto a national limit single carriageway A road so nugget increases not as I was predicting to the obligitory 60 but to bang on 70 ??? past a gatso and flash got you! Laugh I was nearly crying. Now I never condone GATSO's particulary on Nat limit A roads but being a smug bugger who knows that the speed limit is 60 and who owns a Geodesy I loved that one.
quote:
Yes Greg an Audi S4 tuned to 412 hp 320kph top end!!!!
Not a numptymobil just the best understatement car you can find!!!
Thing is in Germany, you don't quite mind Gatsos on roads that require a limit, when, on safer stretches they let you run at your own pace. 280kph seems like a nice pace to roll along at!
Did take my Griff through Germany a few years back, but only found enough clear road for 160mph\245kph (engine still pulling mind), but still better than UK obviously.
Too right Digga, some too many cars today... Used to do a daily(20 years ago)run here to Karlsruhe (200ks) regularly in 50 minutes nowadays more like 1hr 30mins due to numptiedom. You know the problem, biddie in a numptiemobil in the outside lane doing 105kph past a few trucks, won't pull in because she thinks that somnehwere near the north pole there might be another truck. AARGGGHHHH!! F*CK!!!
But no bother, If you want to go for a real blat, try the A96 from Memmingen to Lindau, not on Friday or Monday due to weekenders. I regularly catch up with flat italian jobs wirh swiss numbers also having a real blast (advantage of this stretch is there are few trucks)....... luvverly......

I recommend the A5 between Darmstadt and Frankfurt, 5...8:00h on sunday morning:
It's a four or five lane (I just can count up to three; sorry) motorway, that goes nearly straight for around 30kms. No speed limit.
This place is quite popular at sunday mornings, as there is no traffic except for people who want to checkout top speed or confirming themselves that topspeed is as high as the week before ;-)
Just the right place to meet people with, er, similar interests.
This part of the A5 is quite popular, because Bernd Rosemeyer died there during speed record runs in a Mercedes in the early 1940s.

There are normally speed restrictions in place where hazards dictate.
Junctions, intersections, bridges and busy urban sections etc. will have limits in place, and it seems that generally, people adhere to these, I think mainly because they are very stricly enforced.
But other than that, when you see the white with black diagonal, circular signs, it's time to chase the horizon.

Both is right!
Except for the hazardous places. Sometimes you will see speed restrictions due to noise emissions, although these living areas have been built after the Autobahn. Every habitant knew that there will be noise from the Autobahn before moving there.
Two years ago, there was a decision from the court, that the Hessen gouvernment should cancel xx kms of speed limited Autobahn, after two drivers have been photographed while driving too fast, and went too court to claim that there is not enough unrestricted Autobahn in Hessen according to law. (*very long sentence*)
Most of the speed limits base on political action, not on rational thoughts.
To give a number: I estimate, that there is less than 50% unrestricted speed Autobahn in Germany, due to building sites, bad tarmac surface, too much traffic, living areas in the neighbourhood and small chequered (*right expression?*) politicians.
