Looking for a bit of help (and some comiserations!), the F had a bit of an argument with some armco this morning, and is currently awaiting repair at the insurers expense. (on the plus side it was a low speed spin, no other cars involved and nobody hurt)
Anyway, does anyone know the drill re the armco which I've hit. Seems that I may have damaged it (although it looks like its been hit a few times recently and it still looks fully functional) Whats the official line on this?
Still looks like I'm car-less for the next few weeks. Not what you need on a monday morning. Ar*e.

Not true. You're only obliged to report accidents where there's been an injury. The police wouldn't have time to go out catching burglars if every minor shunt was reported.
I hit a bridge once.. quite fast.. bust it quite badly (and the car!)... the local Council put in a third party claim on my insurance... I think the repair bill for the bridge was about £78,000, not sure if they claimed all of it though..

Once heard of a story of someone in the RAF pranging a fire tender - cost of fixing came in at around £100,000!!! Bent the chassis and had to have a complete overhall as a result...
Still, good to see that the Council do get money from insurance when necessary. Once totalled someones wall in a crash - never heard anything again about that - think that it was because of the councils fault so they didnt claim against me. I guess I should have claimed against the council if I could be bothered...

Now I don't feel as guilty after hearing the bills you guys have manged to run up! Many years ago after just passing my test I was let loose on the public roads in my fiesta shitbox. Unfortunately it was winter time with patchy ice and snow around. Approached a local roundabout at my usual pace thinking all was well and went for the first turning off left. Unfortunately the car had other ideas and kept going forwards, until it mounted and crushed a glowing bollard on a pedestrian island. Luckily no one was around to witness my Fiesta rogering council property.

One of my friends caused a lorry to swerve and hit a bridge. Closed the rail line over the top for a week and ended up with the Insurance firm paying out just over £750k. When he was in the insurance brokers going through what happened the broker pointed out that his car (Esprit V8) which was parked outside the door had just burst into flames.
Wouldn't want his renewal notice :-)
I thought that you were supposed to report accidents that resulted in damage to someone else's property. My brother piled a car through a farmer's hedge once, and I seem to remember him having to give his insurance details to an irate farmer. Not sure if plod got involved though. One thing I did hear about a long time ago - a lad from our school had a 2.8 capri (oh dear) for his first car at 17. During one of his first showing off demo's with a car full of lads he managed to plow into a large boat being trailered around the village. Now apparently you cannot get insurance for boats being carried in transit. So the owner of this wrecked boat sued him in court for a new boat. So at the tender age of 17 he has no car and a 50k bill to be paid back monthly! Not sure if the lad had insurance or not. Be wary of those boats!

Not quite in the 750K league, but a good friend of mine once rolled a single decker bus.
One of the calipers at the back was shot so when he put the handbrake on, it veered right, he corrected it, but put it up on two wheels, hit the opposite kerb and put it through a concrete wall. It made one whole somersault. He climbed out. Couldn't really argue the toss as there was a 200 odd foot skid mark up the road that ended at the kerbside.
It was down in Surrey, near Chessington.
Cost about 25 grand to put the bus right. Needless to say, London Transport parted company with him. But, he's back on the buses again, and doing "the knowledge" as well.

This sounds a little like the story I heard years ago but the lorry went over the bridge and landed in a canal, which would not have been to bad but the lorry landed on about five narrow boats mored below.

Meanwhile freight train pulling large tanks of diesel rounds the corner and is confronted by stationary 2CV... Frantic braking fails to halt train which hits Citroen and leaves the rails in disgust...tankers drop into canal alongside rails and spill their contents...guards van is flipped over and hits embankment with sufficient force to breach the canal retaining wall... oil polluted contents of canal discharge onto multi hectares of prime vineyard doing the grapes no good at all...canal continues to empty until it is dry between the locks which are many Kilometers apart...the many cargo barges on the canal (France not England) most of which are loaded with perishable goods are beached and their cargos rot...the waters wash out bridge foundations stranding road tankers full of grape concentrate from the vineyards...railway bridge's foundations are undermined and bridges become unsafe.
It took over a year to reinstate the railway, canal and roads: total claim was I believe in the region of £10M.
PS the 2CV was a write off.

Friend of mine who works for BT was trained as an HGV driver during the training the instuctor offered a piece of advice along the lines of "Never, ever try and 3 point turn an HGV on the public road". A few months into his job Ian is driving down a country lane on the way to a BT depot and comes across a mini roundabout, no way he can get round it so he decides to revers back down the road and do a 3 point turn in car park of a pub he's just passed. Ian's only 5'2 so when it comes to the full lock bit of reversing into the car park he's got the door open and is leaning out to see where he's going......and falls out.
Lorry continues to go back wards and hits the dray doing its morning deliveries. Ian decides not to hang around so jumps it and 'speeds off' 200 meters or so down he road, as he's getting further up the gear box he starts to notice that the lorry is a little slugish. He's only hooked bumpers with the dray and is now towing it.
To round the story off he's in some BT truckers cafe in Oxford and some guy he's never met starts to tell him this story about some tw@t who fell out of his lorry etc etc..
