Honda Civic Type R....drool!
Discussion
I've had the oppotunity to drive one, managed to blag a test drive by bringing the Lotus to the Honda dealership! I had heard lots of negative things about it, low torque, numb steering so I wasn't expecting much.
What a surprise! It is a fast car, easily as fast as my Elise, it won't threaten a TVR though. The car didn't roll round corners and the engine was absolutely incredible. I would love to take this car round a track someday....
Overall, a serious contender as my next car!!

not taken by the looks, was even considering the renault myself. but impressed with the car, and those guys can really drive ( been in a car with plato's mate, they make my driving look like a vicars)
one thing I must say tho, what a turn around for driven, an entertaining and informative 30 minutes, in fact I was suprised when it ended, I wanted more! which was a shock to me in itself... and next week .. Super cars greeeeeeat!!
couple of points:
jason plato makes a great presenter.
and that pretend street track test is far better than there, overtaking a truck test of previous. in fact the whole "out of 100" tests were more informed and relatable to real life.

Did anyone see the Civic type R beat the Honda S2000 round the track on drivel last night?
What an amazing car, I want one!
That it beat the S2000 would certainly not convince me to prefer it over the S2000...
If that kind of comparison mattered, I would have bought a Golf TDi instead of the 944...
Drivel was remarkably good last night - it came as a bit of a suprise - favourite quote "The tracks a bit wet from the rain so we'll switch the traction control off".
I was glad they actually had 2 decent drivers in the performance tests rather than Mr Brewer making the fastest car on test the slowest.

By coincidence had a back to back test of the S2000 and the Civic R a couple of weeks ago. Disappointed with the S2000, it must have been a lemon as it felt quite sluggish.Dealer insisted that I would like the Civic and let me take his demo out.Fantastic! Didn't stop grinning for a week!Definitely my next day car.

Right, just checked over at the Honda-R chat board. There is a similar but more lively thread there. Unless there has been a spec change or somebody is wrong, the S2000 disney have traction control?
Must admit had a big grin on my face today when a bloke pulled up to the office in his S2000, snigger beaten by a people carrier.
Seriously not my scene these hot hatches but being major critic of Driven in previous threads I became very interested with them, the show was well thought out, entertaining and well presented. Most impressed with the Honda R !

despite being entertaing there were a few things wrong with that report.
- S2000 does NOT have TC, his hand was at the stereo controlls
- the S2000 was not driven to the same level of commitment as the CTR. Iit had, he'd have been even more sideways than the CTR.
- the power deficit is slightly over 40bhp not the quoted 20bhp.

It was an interesting episode of Drivel but...
1) So the Civic beat the S2000. I would still have the S2000 if I had to have one of them
2) Plato commented on how boring front wheel drive understeer is.
3) It looks like a shed. A very sporty shed but a shed none the less.
Apologies if this is a bit harsh but I'm having a bit of a mare at work today and I need a good rant.

Civic r looks the dogs danglies in the flesh, go look at one.
By way of comparison last time i drove that Circuit (castle Coombe) i was well and trully whooped in my Griff 500 by a S2000 - so that just shows how good the S2000 and the R must be.
Molem was ragging the nuts of the S2000 how on earth can you say he was not pushing it....everybody knows sideways round a racetrack is significantly slower
I think the key to this is that the both share a very similar 2.0L 16V engine, but the S2 has a bit more bhp but probably a bit less torque and more weight.

Good episode of Drivel that, especially seeing those townies trying to impress Plato with their driving skills. I loved those Hi-Speed gear changes one of them was making!!
I thought the idea of a track comparison between the winning model and another proper sports car worked really well. More please! I've always thought Hot-Hatches were more 'show than go', but I guess I was wrong. Hard to tell if it was set-up for TV though, eh?

those guys looked like they had an iq of less than 1
they made most townie, hot hatchers appear almost upper class...
i liked the way plato was pissing himself laughing, but still went nice gearchange technique. Then the mongo said 'yeah, well its useful in drag racing' what in your ali g style R5 Turbo - you nonce
