carry on films
Discussion
One on now, why do i like them so much?, crude innuendo, sexist humour, very unsofisticated but so funny. They tried to make a newish one a few years ago, "Carry on columbus" which was crap, I reckon its all down to political correctness which is killing British comedy. If you made Fawlty Towers today, it would not pass the censors due to racialism issues.
I think the whole "Carry On" thing was the entire package.
The humour and innuendo only worked because of Sid James, Barbara Windsor, Kenneth Williams etc etc
Also, the incidental music added so much to the carry on films too.....
Everyone has their favourite on too....
Mine is Carry on Abroad.....

Elke Sommer - "Man is injured"
Windsor Davies - "Where? What man?"
ES - "Is Professor Archaeology ... Is bleeding terrible.
WD - "Never mind his qualifications! Is he hurt?"
:terrible: but
It's late and I don't care. There are cars in the film so what do people think about the merits of the Wolsley Six over the Austin Maxi? Apart from the badge on the grill that lights up

"Do you remember the Bubonic plague Manuel? It was very popular here at one time....."
Shhh Don't mention the war!
Fawlty Towers - class programme, nearly as good as Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister
My favourite "Carry On" is "Carry on Cleo". I think it has more jokes per square inch than any of the others.
Kenneth Connor fails to sell at the slave auction. The auctioneer stamps a Lion symbol on his arm and says "I'm afraid you're for the lions". "I hope they're a good family" says Connor.

my favorite carry on has to be "up the Kyber"
where they are all dressed eating dinner and under attack by the Khazzi's men, the plaster from the roof is falling in the soup as the building gets trashed.."awful noise outside...go and see what it is..some natives"
out go the sodgers, lift kilts and they all run away...hilarious.
Carry on Screaming another classic...
they just don't make 'em like that now..people are now more "sophisticated"?

Ah, Carry on Cleo. Wasn't Amanda Barry just gorgeous? So much sexier that Liz Taylor.
Carry on Camping: when Sid James get to the camp site and sees the sign, 'All asses must be shown'. He asks where the boss is. "He's gone for a P." Magic.
Khyber: just about every line.
What a lovely series.

By 1970 they were beginning to lose there way. Being saucy was not risque enough and as they grew more explicit they lost their charm. It's quite easy to see this happening from our perspective now but, at the time, the producers must have felt that they had to become more lewd or shut up shop. "Carry on Private" (the one with Patrick Mower from 1976 I think) is sickeningly awful.
"Infamy, Infamy...they all have it in for me" is spoken by Kenneth Williams in "Carry on Cleo" in the scene where, as the Emperor Julius Ceaser, he is assassinated by the senators.
Another line -
"This is Seneca, he's a sage".
"I bet he knows his onions".
