Not many stations stock four star anymore, who has local petrol stations who sell leaded petrol?

I've just been reading about it and it is actually higher octane than unleaded, whats better, using four star or putting additive in my car?

There's a station not far from me that advertises leaded petrol, although I'm not sure if it's the real deal or LRP.

I used to use the Castrol additive with octane booster in my little Midas, it always seemed to top all of the reviews at the time beating the other additives and LRP. There was a noticable difference if I had to use something different.

Of course, the even better option is an unleaded head - I guess that wouldn't be too costly for a Midget. Maybe an upgraded unleaded head too...

This is the stuff you need Nicola: http://tetraboost.com/ this differs form the other additives on the market in that it is a lead additive. The manufacturers of 4 star petrol have effectivley halted production and it is now becoming scarce.

You used to be able to get an in-line type thing with (lead?) balls in which conditioned the fuel as it passed over them.

Rather that than putting additives in the tank at every fill up

Those things don't work, just a gimmick, pretty much like the £20 electric fan 'superchargers' you can get on eBay now!

LRP you can get at some petrol stations doesn't have to meet any standards, so its generally junk.

Castrol Valvemaster Plus gets my vote every time.

Really? I wondered why I could not find anything about them on here

I'm sure I read an advert in the back of C&SC from around 10 years ago....always thought they were legit

BTW, there is a list of garages selling 4* in the link

For an unleaded head for a Midget in Derbyshire go here, it's where my Riley's head is going to be done. He's reckoned to be one of the best in the country:

Unfourtunately they are having problems supplying it.

Bayford does, however, face difficulties in securing product and recently outlined its frustrations in a letter to its retailers that presented the full picture of the situation. Its long term blending partner has decided that the volumes through the tank are no longer sufficient and the search for an alternative supplier - that complies with the stringent health and safety criteria for leaded product - now extends across the world. Several possible options are being considered.

conditions the valves & as I understand it, gives a more controlled burn- lessens the effect of pinking

I see. What was the reason for cars stopping using it? Because of cats?

Apparently Gulf are saying it's not viable to produce leaded petrol in the UK now but are exploring the possibility of shipping it over from Iran where it's still used and readily availible.
