Yes, I know, heard it all before, but anyone know anything more about this...?

A new British super car will be launched on April 23, St George's Day, somewhere in the UK. Very little is known about the car, but we can tell you the name. Keating will release two versions, a Veyron-chasing TKR model and a gran turismo model called the SKR.

Initially the car supposed to become a true multi-national project, but last year Keating spent 9 months sourcing all the components from UK based companies making the new super car almost exclusively British.

The TKR will be hand built to special order only and boasts 'more than F1 cars' horsepower levels. Keating in their press release made a dangerous statement, a Keating TKR prototype supposedly beat the Bugatti Veyron's speed record in a closed testing session. At the unveiling next month, if the weather permits, a new attempt may be made at the nearby RAF airfield.

The Keating SKR retains the TKR's body but with a smaller engine, just 400 bhp and has been tuned in such a way to make it a daily driver. The SKR is also made-to-order and will be fitted with personally selected options.

Prices and further details will most likely be revealed closer to the launch date.

As with all these fantastical claims, the proof is in the pudding. Not at all bothered until it comes out and proves itself.

I think part of the "joy" of the Veyron is that it is IMMENSELY quick, and yet drivable. How this lightweight car with what, >1000bhp will handle on a damp country lane is anyone's guess...but I reckon it would be quite scary.

Indeed. Surely the small companies will soon realize the veryons Vmax isn’t the most impressive thing about it by along shot, Callaway did that in 88, It’s the fact that that performance is so accessible and despite it mass and size its real world pace is very good. Could this thing the Ultimate or the Bristol pull away from a 997RS on a twisty road, or survive VW’s endurance testing could they hell.

I'm probably going to have my PH credential revoked for this, but my first reaction to this was 'Meh. So what.' rolleyes

Yes, building a car that can do 250+ isn't something to be sniffed at, but I really just don't give a flying fk. It's either going to be horribly compromised, horribly expensive or, more likely, both.

What is this obsession with beating the Veyron? VAG spent vast amounts of money developing it and allegedly lose a couple of million on every sale. Who on earth wants to emulate that business model?

Now, build a good looking, reliable, brilliant handling and fast car for £30k-ish - then I'll be impressed.

also anyone can get 1000+bhp from an engine. Christ if I had the money I could turn the monaro into a 1000bhp bd (Wonder how close HarryOz is with his TT LS7 conversion)

But the difference would be drivability, it seems the veyron can pootle around town then get you to the south of France without much effort. Thats the true benchmark to beat not just the outright power

(b) £30k Elise rival
(c) Hardcore bike engined track day weapon

Just to put it in perspective, with 400 bhp this car will have 2/3rds of the power that a McLaren F1 has, and that is the only vehicle I know of in the same class as a Veyron for top speed (and it is about 10 mph slower). And for the record I hold both vehicles in incredibly high esteem, each is in their own way a marvellous feat of engineering. Nevertheless if this Keating supercar is to be on a par with a McLaren it needs to have a CdA of around 2/3 that of the F1. I'd have to wonder just how that is going to be achieved AND still provide a degree of aerodynamic stability at 200 + mph.

It seems a little unrealistic IMHO.

Don't you get to a point where you have more HorsePower than Ability-to-drive !

I have 250hp in the 911 , and quite frankly I regularly scare the bejeezes out of myself ! (in fact maybe I should just buy an old Metro!!)

400bhp was only for the 'non-Veyron beating' GT version (TKS) - the top speed competitor (TKR) has allegedly 'more hp than an F1 car' if you read through the original post.

Very true - atleast technically. I agree it's head and shoulders above the others which are at best, racing cars for the road. However, great as the engineering on the Veyron is (and I can't deny it's peerless) the points that always got remembered where the numbers - how many cylinders, how many litres and crucially how fast. The numbers on the technical side are equally stagering, but nobody ever wants to know how many joules are lost as heat energy when the Veyron brakes from high speed, how low the coefficient of drag is or how much heat transfer the cooling system has to cope with and how it does all this whilst the occupant is sitting in a pleasant, air conditioned environment.

People do miss the point of the Veyron, but they've been doing that since before it was released and as long as it's 253mph that people focus on, not 10 (the total number of heat exchangers on the car) - as long as that happens any car that does 254mph will be considered superior.

Did anybody else see this at the British Motor Show? Looked very impressive in the flesh. Around then i think there were speculations of a top speed of nearer 270mph!!! Obviously a very faulse claim. When was the name changed to keating i remmeber it as the barabus?

It is, indeed, a great looking car, but you'd think that they would have taken all the ccensoredp out of the boot before the publicity shots.

Can't wait to hear the price! eek
