I currently drive citroen AX GT, will get new car soon ... due shoddy condition of AX GT

by the way, how does those japanese car like Honda civic, CRX, Toyota MR2 whatever cheap for under a grand drive ?
r they THAT expenisve to run, dull to drive... ???

It has be cheap runabout coz i currently out of job, grim grey line at dole (

personally i liked drive Fiat uno 903cc Sooo fun car, but way too underpowered, until i blew the engine... had to scrapped my red tin for £10
looking for a car that have same or above the level of fun-ness of fiat uno... my citroen AX GT doesn't even match the fun-ness of fiat uno, beileve or not!

Not the quickest thing available, but will certainly last and has good handling, visibility, and a certain amount of presence that'll allow you to get away with having such an old eurobox. You should be able to get a decent one for around £500.

Jay,

Have you tried 'Exchange & Mart' ? Click on cars in the centre and then enter £1,000 in the price box. I didn't bother with the other boxes, and it came up with 4,190 cars of all sorts. Some of the adverts were quite encouraging.

Come back here when you've made a list of possibles and you'll get lots of good advice about what to try and what to avoid. Good luck!

How about a Manta GT/E.
2.0 fuel injected, not mega fast, but you can hang the tail out on roundabouts.
I sold mine for £270 and it was in really good condition.
Triumph Spitfires are also good fun, but you would have trouble picking up a decent runner for under £1500.Stick a straight through twin back box exhaust on one and you get crackling and pops out of it like a racing car.And thats from a 1500!!

Sciroccos are very cheap, same engine/chassis as Mk1 Golf. Brisk, economical & handle well. Insurance a bit steep though. Good classifieds section at www.vwmonline.co.uk

now youve stopped laughing think about it!
bombproof 1.3 engine with a bit of scope for tuning, REAR WHEEL DRIVE and when you get bored you can chop the roof off and turn it into a porsche 550 spyder replica!

What about a mid eighties 6cyl 3 or 5 series BMW. Serious amount of car for the money, and the early ones are relativly easy (and cheap) to work on.

2.8 Capri was rated at 160 bhp. I've had two and next to the TVR they did best at the 'grin factor'.

I seem to remember reading in Autocar a few weeks back that there is a firm that will take a Capri donor car, strip out the interior and fit racing seats & full roll cage, replace the leaf-spring suspension with spring & dampers all round, and drop a 5.7L American (forget which) V8 in under the bonnet. Total cost is about £5k I think, and yields a cheap & fun track-day car.

Ok, bit outside the £1k budget, but sounds like a laugh to me.
