Aaaargh!
Thought it could only be a matter of time before the car-hating idiots in Bristol City Council jumped on the bandwagon!

Congestion charging in Bristol
I trust ill have a reduction in my road tax next year due to the fact that ill no longer be able to drive all over the UK without paying extra - i currently pay £86 (or whatever it is) a year to drive everywhere - next year my freedom will be reduced, so i hope my road tax goes down also.
Wishful thinking? Of course. Robbing bastards.

Pete this has been on the cards a for a long time now. Do as I do, shop at Cribbs Causeway. Very Car friendly with lots of free car parks (Also, all of the business rates from Cribbs Causeway go to South Gloucestershire District Council rather than Bristol "motorist should be hung" City Council ("BCC")).
I don't believe BCC want to kill off most of the businesses in the centre of town but mark my words it will happen, with those remaining having to pay more business rates to have access to even less customers than they have now.
Still at least the drugged up beggars won't have any cars to fall in front of, should save the NHS a bit.

Must confess I can't remember the last time I went into central bristol for any purpose other than work. If this comes into being I shan't bother going in for work (even though I could claim it back).
London will become a refuge for asylum seekers and colonial bar staff, and bristol will be full of Pikeys and Doley Wernits. If thats what councils want... fine, just don't expect me to contribute.

yertis said: I am. I think we're all north Bristol. How about "Le Pub Avec Le Grub" on the A38? God I love this city it just oozes style . Say a date time place. I'm pretty flexible. Can we factor in some food as well?
Is that the one that is bright ORANGE, or am I thinking of a different one??
PS let me know where and when...
I've been invited to join the Bristol City Councils forum for the redevelopment of the city's road system, due to the fact that we're a local firm with HGV's and the new system is very likely to affect us considerably, I'm not looking to attend, but I'll do my best to keep you all informed. We out for a beer tonight, or in the future?
Oh bloody hell I've just moved to N.Somerset from London and now Bristol want £6 for driving into the centre of town. Anyone tried to get a train from Bristol temple meads? what a joke, rush hour and they still only have 2-3 carriages.
Oh well no big loss as Bristol town centre isn't really that interesting I'll keep going to cribbs causeway...just got to keep you eye out for the mobile scamera unit.
I love the country roads round here but the police really hate motorists.

Hi, I've been lurking for a while but this topic has drawn me in to post!!
I live in Gloucestershire but work in Bristol city centre. I'd be out of pocket if they bring in congestion charging.
What I don't understand is why "nobody" has got round to building a park and ride at the M4/M5/M32 interchange (other than the obvious issues of planning approval, green belt etc.)
I have no choice but to drive to Bristol but find it really pointless to then struggle down the M32 to pay £5.50 for the privilege of parking in a nasty car park 20 minutes from work where people get mugged in broad daylight, let alone at 6.30 when I usually get out of work!
I would love to be able to use a park and ride system and not have to park in the centre.
And as for the existing bus service....just don't start me on that...
I agree that something has to be done but BCC really need to deal with the issues that stop people using public transport - like the wonderful bus company we have...

Piglet.
At a guess I'd say the reason for not having a park and ride by the M4/M32/M5 area is the cost of land. I agree though, bloody good idea. Of course what we really need is a parking satellite hub outside of north bristol, with a fast rail link going straight into temple meads, with services every 15 minutes. Imagine how many car journeys that would take out of the congestion periods.

PS - Ref Bristol, Pie and Pint, I'm about to open a thread on the events section:

Chaps - dazren has it right. Boycott the town - go to Cribbs Causeway. Vote with your feet. As the tumbleweed.errr.tumbles..across the streets around the Galleries BCC will be forced into seeing the error of their ways.
BTW: I'm in Basingstoke but travel over to Bristol on business. Luckily I don't have to go any further in than Filton. Next time I'm going to be around mind if I post and see if any of the Bristol PHers are around for a pint?

Ooh yes, what about a high speed Tram system, terminating somewhere on the North of Bristol - that would be a good idea... Oh yes, that's what BCC & South Glos have been arguing about for the at least the last 12 YEARS!!!!!!!!!! I bet they manage to implement congestion charging quicker...
