Anthrax Island
Discussion
I stumbled across this book here on PH a few months ago and decided it would be polite to check it out since the author D L Marshall is a PHer and all.
Well, I was blown away - easily my favourite book this year.
I don’t want to spoil anything because the fun is the journey, but: Fantastic writing style setting up an ominous atmosphere, a main character who’s very believable, tons of twists, and when you think you’ve spotted a clichéd one the author twists it again. And then to top it off a great car chase scene evidently written by a petrolhead.
I immediately preordered the sequel Black Run, there’s a sample at the end of Anthrax Island that whets the whistle with some Audi RS4 Avant mischief that's very enjoyable. It’s just been released this week and I am gagging to get onto it.
Genuinely highly recommended, would love to hear anyone else enjoy it?

Had picked this one up after this recommendation and actually really enjoyed it, very OTT but a nice read, hard to put down at times and a few bits that sent me down a wikipedia rabbit hole which is always a good sign. Will give the next book a go too.
Agree, a bit James Bond OTT but plenty of twists right to the very last page.Author obviously has an interest in cars (and guns?) and a knowledge of the west coast of Scotland.
good first book from the author.
Haven't been able to watch/read this but story of Anthrax Island on BBC iPlayer

Guys, I just stumbled across this and just want to say a massive thanks to everyone!
Particularly from fellow car fans… there’s a lack of decent car chases in books.
I know not everything can be to everyone’s taste so, you know, it doesn’t have to be everyone’s favourite book or anything, but if it entertains for a little while then job done.
And yeah, at the prices it was on sale at, crazy.

Haha! The second book heavily references Ronin. A V8 powered Audi, a BMW M5, and small medieval French streets…

I appreciate it, thank you!great books enjoyed reading especially with car references keep up the good work
I’m literally writing the first chapter of the third book right now, and there’s car content on the first line! (Ignore the work-in-progress title).
So far, anyway. You never know what the publishers will cut.
There was an entire first chapter of pure car content in the second book that was cut entirely, and now exists only as a sad file on my laptop!
