I remember when I was a teenager reading some books that at the end of different scenes you made a choice, eg stay and fight (turn to page 47), flee turn to page 90) etc. I think they tended to be adventure type stories a bit like (but not) Dungeons & Dragons type thing

Does anyone know what they are / how to find them now? I want to buy my daughter a couple. IIRC they were just thin paperback types, nothing too intensive.

I had one from a series I think called “choose your own adventure”
It was a medieval story if I remember

Slightly OT but does anyone remember Knightmare?

Dodgy CGI and a bucket on your head.

Loved that.

Was a drunken stage show at blue dot a couple of years ago. Filth. Hysterical. But filth.

I used to have a few of these. Got a couple in the loft somewhere still, I’m going to give one to my lad to read see if he likes it.
Friend of mine at school had them all.

I remember vividly the covers to Appointment with F.E.A.R.
Battleblade warrior, starship traveller

and the smell of the books.

Great nostalgia, hopefully doesn’t turn out like Amiga 500 gaming nostalgia haha

Given how far CGI has come, I’m surprised they haven’t rebooted it

There were the original CYOA in the 60s / 70s; then Fighting Fantasy in the early 80s (Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson), which started off with 'Warlock of Firetop Mountain' (I still own); and plenty others inc. Joe Denver's 'Lone Wolf' series; Way of the Tiger series (didn't appeal to me); GrailQuest (rapidly declined after the first few); Fabled Lands series that was more open-ended; Steve Jackson's more dark fantasy 'Sorcery!' series (4 books), and my favourite 'Createn Chronicles' series (3 books).

Gamebooks / CYOA have made a revival in the digital age, and new ones are being produced through Tinman, and the more LGBTQ friendly Choice of Games LLC offerings. Choice of Robots is one of the best and most thought-provoking ones that I have read.

I too, plan to introduce my Little Man to 'Warlock of Firetop Mountain'.
