Guess the book.

With all the stuff about Afghanistan going on in the news at the minute, it got me thinking of a novel I read maybe 25 years ago. It was about a lone British soldier working with the Mujahideen to shoot down Russian helicopters with Stinger missiles. I remember it was a great read, but no idea of the title or Author. Any ideas?

Thats the one, thanks. I'm going to read it again. The other comment was aimed at Rambo 3, not you
There was another book, 'Jihad! The Secret War in Afghanistan' by 'Tom Carew' (real name Philip Sessarego).
A claim in the book that he was ex-SAS was ridiculed by a BBC interviewer after a tip off, which caused the book to be withdrawn.

I’ve got another one that’s doing my head in. I read this book at school in 80s or early 90s. Given the subject matter, I assume before the Cold War ended. My memories a quite faint, but it has stuck with me.
It is a story of a post nuclear war world told (I think) from a child’s perspective. It is set in a village or rural community that survives a nuclear holocaust due to being protected by mountains or hills, or being in a valley or similar. The reader is not told (at least initially) about the war but it is slowly revealed as things affected by the war or radiation interrupt daily life.
I know that’s vague, but any ideas?
