Discussion
Hi Guys,
While I was working, a couple of my colleagues would often discuss the latest work by Terry Pratchett. Although the conversation was always interesting and intriguing, I never had the time or inclination to read them myself.
Now I am retired, I have a bit more free time and would like to see what all the fuss was about. Consequently, I would be grateful for any suggestions where to start.
All positive responses gratefully received.

Discworld read them in publishing order IMHO.
The first two set up the Discworld universe (as it were) but are not in the easy reading style that became the Pratchett hallmark. Lots of ideas, rather disjointed & plot-light.
The straps are hit at book 3.
You might get more responses with a more specific thread title!

Start with the Colour of Magic and persevere through the first couple as they do get better, I particularly like Mort (book 4 ?) and the Sgt Vimes ones
And if by any chance you have grandkids staying over and would like to read to them - definitely check out Sir Pratchett children's books.
I read many of them to my son when he was younger - some favourites - Carpet People, Truckers, Wee Free Men, Hatful of Sky - was an absolute joy reading them. I frequently ran over the allotted bedtime story time....
There are also some shorter story collections such as Dragons at Crumbling Castle - which are pretty good too.

Agree re: Mort. It was the first one I read and in retrospect I think it was a great one to start with. Completely hooked me anyway.Gassing Station | Books and Literature | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
