Those who enjoy the Jack Reacher books may get into this series featuring a Wyoming Game Warden called Joe Pickett. Like Lee Child. Box describes an America that is authentic yet largely unknown.
Joe Pickett is a dedicated game warden where he tries to see everything as a black or a white. However the situations he finds himself in, the alliances he needs to make, and above all the pull of a very strong family responsibility with a strong minded wife and 3 young daughters see him having to make hard moral decisions whilst stopping all kinds of huntin and fishin skullduggery.

The scenic descriptions are stunning, the plots satisfyingly nail biting, the action is bloody and Joe comes across as an ordinary guy who's physical and moral limits are tested to the limit.

Agree! 'Tis a nice change from the run-of-the-mill crime characters I normally read.

I think Joe is one of my favourite 'heroes' ever

Along with anti-hero Nate of course wink

Great stories, that are very well plotted

Box also has the ability to 'lose' a character without losing the story

Much as I love the Reacher character Pickett feels more real to me
