Recommend me a good book on sports psychology
Discussion
Not quite limited to sport, hence posting in The Lounge...
Can anybody recommend some good books on the techniques and tactics of professional sports folk (all disciplines)?
Having seen professional sports men and women prepare for competition whether it be F1, golf, tennis, cycling, football etc very much struck by the feeling that the those of a world class level have it already won in their head before the game even starts. That mental attitute appears to go a long way to getting the actual result.
Would be interested in learning about the techniques and tactics that help them prepare.
Many thanks,

There are a few books by Dr Bob Rotella that aren't perhaps exactly what you're looking for but he does work with a lot of professional athletes, mainly golfers, on their mental approach.
Golf is a Game of Confidence and Golf is not a Game of Perfect to name a couple.
If you're interested in elite sport generally, Bounce is a decent read but more about what it takes to be "world class" in terms of practice etc.

Just seen this thread whilst looking for holiday book ideas.
If you're interested in how sport psychology works it would be an advantage to know some of the basic concepts the theories used in applied work are based on.
Google can probably do this for you, passably.
A very good book which explains how theories are applied in the real world is Applied Sport Psychology: A case based approach by Hemmings and Holder, Pub. by WILEY-BLACKWELL. From Olympic Rowers to world class boxers (in this case a certain Mr. R. Hatton), you can read accounts from some very well known (in the field) sport psychologists as they perform interventions designed to improve performance.
