Not posted in a while but thought I post to get some advice on self publishing in regard cost and timescale and also to run the idea past a few more people.

My book is based around my other passion which is reptiles.
I did a lot of research I found there was not book that covered D.I.Y related products such as making incubators or making hides most books I found just covered certain species or a group a of species with the focus on care of that species.
When it comes to D.I.Y related projects most of the ideas and projects were videos or various forum post on reptile related site on what people had made them selves.
I thought why not put all these ideas from the video sites and forums into a book and get this published.
As I will be making all the projects myself and photographing the step by step guide I can for see any copyright issues

I will have get my book proof read, grammar and spell checked as mine is awful don't really want to go down the ebook route as this defeats the whole idea behind my book.

Any input or pointers would be greatly received

You'll find that it's much easier to find a publisher for a non-fiction book than for a novel.

Find a publisher that has books similar to the one that you propose. Then prepare a detailed synopsis, explain how you are the right person to write this book (experience, qualifications, knowledge, etc, etc) and demonstrate to them that there is a market for the book. Thus, nothing similar published so far, and it is a popular field.

If you really want to publish it yourself, then there are numerous businesses and websites that offer a print-on-demand vanity publishing service.

The book is based around pieces taken from forums, internet video sites and other keepers like myself so im guessing its more knowledge and experience rather than qualifications.
The book I intend to write will be a step by guide to building things for reptiles using everyday household items so it a bit like a Blue Peter book in some respect.
When you look at what the retailers charge for reptile related items they are often very overpriced some of the items can be simply made yourself from everyday items
I made a hide from a plastic mixing bowl with a bit creativity using papermache I created a very realistic looking hide for a fraction of the cost of a shop bought one, and its these ideas im trying to get down on paper and into a book
After doing some research ive got the thumbs up from fellow keepers and there is a real interest around the book as basically there isnt a book like it on the market at the moment.
Im still researching topics for the book and im waiting some answers back from other people on other topics I may have overlooked
