If you like a long involved book with a bit of everything, then this is a must. I would put this in my top ten books of all time. Cannot recommend highly enough, however be careful what translation you get as come are a bit 'old', the above is good.

I was just about to make a thread on book recommendations and saw this.
I've obviously heard of the novel before but never got round to reading it.
I've always been a big reader of Charles Dickens and recently I also read Crime and Punishment which I enjoyed. I'm reading something far more modern now, the girl with the dragon tattoo, and once I've finished the trilogy I'll read this. Looks like it's a long one though!

I have been reading like a madman lately and I've literally just finished this book.
Without a shadow of a doubt, this book is right up there with the best of them.
A story of greed, jealously, love, pride and revenge.
What on earth do I read next which can compare to this epic?!
I believe the 3 musketeers are in several novels? Which order are they in? Has anyone read these? I'm tempted by these or perhaps Les Miserables....
Edit - just found there are 5, and found the order through Wikipedia. May start the 3 musketeers tomorrow!
Hoping I'll like them, I absolutely loved The Count of Monte Cristo and the 3 musketeers are also classics so hoping they'll be good too!

All these versions are a bit confusing, couple of kindle versions at 50p but suspect they are the old 1846 translation If you like a long involved book with a bit of everything, then this is a must. This was the problem I found after reading this. Everything else seemed rubbish in comparison.Without a shadow of a doubt, this book is right up there with the best of them.

I am about 1/4 of the way through the 3 Musketeers. That is also very good, good pacing and the characters are very good. D'Argtangian is very different character to Dantes but very entertaining.
Be careful when buying them because some of the translations are a bit rubbish. I have the Wordsworth Classics additions.
Also if you like long epic stories then I recommend Don Quixote. Very good and funny.

May start The Three Musketeers this evening. Of to Dartmouth tomorrow for a weeks break so not sure whether I'll get much chance to read or not!
