Can't remember book series
Discussion
When I was a young lad I remember reading a series of books about a salvage ship captain and his ship, thriller / drama style. Each book was standalone but had links to the previous series.
I was almost certain it was Bernard Cornwell or Wilbur Smith but google informs me it isn't!
It's driving me mad as I want to read them again, can anyone shed any light?

Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt novels?

Not a salvage captain, but the main character is a marine specialist so gets involved in salvage etc

Sound to me like Clive Cussler's "Oregon" series: http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/c/clive-cussler/.
These revolve around a state of the art ship that's disguised to look from the outside like an old salvage/freighter ship.
Only been around for 10 years or so, depends how long ago "When I was a young lad..." was!
