Just finished this epic, stunning tour de force of a book.

I confess to looking at this in the library and thinking do I really want to read a 1100 page book about building a cathedral?

Put pre-conceptions aside and read it - kings, knights, war, religion, politics, social unrest, sex, violence, brilliant villains, deep characters and a satisfying ending.

Fiction beautifully entwined with non-fiction.

A must read.

Thoughts?

I've just finished my last book and was wondering what to read next.

Looks great. Now downloaded and will get stuck in this afternoon.

Thanks for the recommendation! thumbup

...just realised that I watched the mini-series of the same. Starred Ian McShane and the very lovely Hayley Atwell. What a pair of norks she has! bow

Well I almost exclusively read factual books these days but someone lent me TPOTE to take on holiday. Wow, fantastic stuff. Raced through the whole book in a few days. I think Follett said it was his own favourite book.

I bought the sequel World Without End but not got round to taking it on yet, think I'll need another holiday for that!

Oh and the TV series of Pillars was really good too. Aliena....yum.

Enjoy.

It's not pretentious or literary in anyway. It's just a bloody great yarn of a book.

Stunning book, I read it when I was recovering from a knee op.
I looked forward to reading the sequel, World Without End when I had another knee op smile

I couldn't get into the TV series though.

I'm a massive Ken Follett fan!

You need to read the next one World Without End

Then start the Century Trilogy - book 3 due out in Sept smile
